A program for taking notes on Windows. Best Android Notes Apps

One of the greatest things smartphones offer is the ability to take notes. Gone are the days when inspiration fades away simply because you can't find your laptop, and you can now carry your shopping list in your pocket all day, every day. Of course, for mobile notes to be effective, you'll need the right app, so let's take a look at the best notes apps for Android!

ColorNote
(downloads: 8385)
First on our list is ColorNotes. It's a simple notes app that lets you take text notes, lists, and more. Its feature is hidden in its name; you can change the background color of a note to keep it organized, a feature implemented long before Google Keep came out. Some other features include calendar support, backup data to internal media and cloud storage systems, there are several reminder functions, and much more. And the most best feature application, it's completely free!

Evernote
(downloads: 1969)
Evernote ranks high when it comes to note-taking apps. It's loaded with features of all kinds, including a variety of note types, notepad support, organizational capabilities, interaction with other apps and note sharing, and of course, it's a cross-platform app. If you order an additional subscription, you also get more storage, offline access, PDF notes, and more. This is a powerful and worthwhile app if you need a little more than just a basic sticky note app.

Fast NotePad
(downloads: 2492)
Fast NotePad is a relatively new app on the note-taking app market, but it's garnering a solid amount of positive reviews. This app is inspired by the Material Design of the latest Androids, and is a fast and functional note-taking app. There are no extra features, no ads, nothing that will bloat the app beyond necessary. Fast NotePad is very fast and quite good for what it is designed to do. This is a great option for people who just want a quick and easy solution. Of course, you should understand that the high speed of the application results in a lack of some functions.

FiiNote
(downloads: 2787)
FiiNote is from the same developers who made FreeNote, an app that topped our lists many years ago. FiiNote is a very fun note-taking app that provides a more authentic experience. It comes with a grid background that supports drawings, so you can take notes by writing or drawing if you want. You can also add images, videos or voice if you wish. It's free to use and comes with a decent set of features for those looking for a hybrid note-taking experience.

Google Keep
(downloads: 1135)
Google Notes is an app called Google Keep, and you'll hear a lot of people recommend it. The app uses a colorful Material design inspired by Android 5 and above, so it looks great and offers great functionality. Google Keep shows notes as cards that you can quickly scroll through and select. The application is integrated with Google Drive, which allows you to add voice and photos to your notes, you can also share notes and set reminders. This great app for notes that offers enough features to be very useful, but not so many that it seems too complicated.

Lecture Notes
(downloads: 1847)
LectureNotes is a popular, highly rated, and powerful note taking app. This app isn't just focused on general notes, it's aimed towards things like academic and professional applications. It was one of the earliest apps to include stylus support and is still one of the best today. The application has support for OneNote and Evernote, supports PDF, audio and video recording (for recording lectures or meetings), and much, much more. This is seriously a very good app.

NotePad+
(downloads: 2459)
NotePad+ bills itself as an all-in-one app for taking notes, drawing, sketching, and more. This app is somewhat different from the others on our list due to its diverse nature. You can playfully go from scribbling to a proper note, or you can get the best of both worlds. The app comes with a variety of color themes, unlimited notes (limited only by your device's available memory), multi-page notes, and even passcode features for security.

OneNote
(downloads: 803)
OneNote comes to the app market from Microsoft and is a standalone note-taking app that runs on OneDrive, similar to how Google Keep runs on Google Drive. The app has a ton of features including organization elements, cross-platform support, widgets, native Android features, some interaction features, and support for voice, text, photos in your notes. This is quite a powerful application and a must have if you use Microsoft products.

Simplenote
(downloads: 613)
Simplenote, as the name suggests, is simple application for notes. Like Fast Note, the app has deliberately removed a variety of features that you'll find in other apps, in favor of speed and helping to keep the app lightweight. Unlike Fast Note, Simplenote has some other features. The app offers cross-device syncing, as well as an organization system that works with a variety of markers to make notes easy to find. All this is also completely free.

SomNote
(downloads: 1559)
Last, but certainly not least, SomNote closes our list. It's a notes app that offers quite a lot of features and caters to long-term notes rather than simple things like grocery lists or short reminders. The app has a folder system for easy organization, a locking mechanism to keep your notes safe, and theming options. There are also synchronization features that allow you to update data between devices. It's a good, reliable app that does what it's supposed to do.

Any user regularly faces the need to save a variety of information. Often such information is not voluminous materials, but small text or an image with some important data. For example, this could be notes taken during a meeting or studying an important document, a fragment of a web page with useful information, a phone number that you need to call a couple of times, the address of an Internet page that you would like to visit, etc.

Many users save such text notes in text files, graphics are dumped into the “My Drawings” folder, and some data is even written down on scraps of paper. However this is not The best decision, because with the accumulation of materials it becomes more and more difficult to find something you need. For such cases, it is much more convenient to keep an electronic notebook on hand, which will allow you to quickly save the necessary information and provide quick access to the data of interest. Theoretically, a variety of solutions can serve as an electronic notebook - from ordinary “sticky notes” on the desktop to heavy-duty PIMs (personal information managers). True, stickers are only good for keeping very short text notes and reminders, while PIMs, on the contrary, have very broad functionality and are more suitable for planning and managing tasks and contacts, but are not particularly convenient for taking notes. A more preferable option is a notes manager, which can be a software solution or service. We will look at several such applications and services in this article.

Note-taking programs

There are many interesting note-taking programs on the market. The most solid, functional, but, alas, too expensive solution for most users is the Microsoft OneNote application. Therefore, we will give preference to more affordable or even free utilities: Aml Pages, CintaNotes and Flashnote.

The most functional of them is the Aml Pages program (see table). It is an electronic notebook that allows you to quickly save notes from the most different types(text notes, pictures, fragments of web pages, URLs, etc.), and most importantly, understand the accumulated information without any extra effort. The CintaNotes and Flashnote utilities can only work with text information, but they are compact, easy to use and require a minimum of effort to save data and gain access to it, and therefore may well satisfy the needs of a number of users.

Developer: G&G Software

Distribution size: 5.24 MB

Work under control: Windows 95\98\Me\NT\2000\XP\Vista\7

Price: personal license - 350 rubles; business license - 1800 rub.

Aml Pages is a tree-like electronic notebook that allows you to store a variety of information: texts, fragments of web pages, images, etc. The solution has impressive functionality that can be expanded through plugins (with the help of plugins it is easy to teach the program to check spelling, synchronize documents via the Internet, and much more other). The utility has a regular and portable version (5.7 MB), the latter does not require installation and works from removable media (flash drive, removable hard drive and so on.).

A note in Aml Pages is a full-fledged analogue of a document, that is, it can contain text (including formatted and HTML text - Fig. 1), pictures (including screenshots), web page code, etc. The storage of notes is organized in a tree structure with the ability to move individual elements (notes and even entire tree fragments). You can create notes in different ways - the fastest way is to drag selected text fragments directly onto the Aml Assist panel. This results in the creation of a new note with the corresponding fragment in the format selected by the user during this operation. You can also drag selections directly into an open note, or copy them to the clipboard and paste as usual. For better orientation, individual tree nodes or specified notes can be highlighted in colors; Notes are also allowed to be assigned categories.

Rice. 1. Use in Aml Pages note
various formatting options

The program implements a powerful search mechanism - a quick search is possible using tree node headings and a full search indicating many parameters: keywords, search area, comparison accuracy, creation and modification dates, etc. In addition, there is functionality for conducting an “approximate” search (when the user does not remember the exact keywords), implemented through filters (Fig. 2).

Rice. 2. Setting up access to Aml Pages data using filters

Tools are provided for synchronizing notes between several PCs via the Internet, although the installation of the Aml2Dropbox plugin (http://www.amlpages.com/Source/Aml2Dropbox.zip) is required. It is possible to work with several databases of notes (the databases open in different tabs) and protect documents with a password.

Developer: Cinta Software

Distribution size: 1.27 MB

Work under control: Windows XP/2003/Vista/7

Price: for free

CintaNotes is a simple and convenient notebook with tag support. The program has a portable version (752 KB), which can be installed on a flash drive, which will provide access to a personal database of notes from any computer.

Notes in CintaNotes are stored in a linear format, but they can be tagged (called labels here) to make them easier to navigate (Figure 3). To speed up the entry of tags, a drop-down list of available tags is automatically displayed immediately after entering the first characters of the name. It is possible to assign multiple tags to a record. Creating notes is carried out, in fact, with one click of the mouse - just select the text and press the key combination Ctrl+F12. There is another way - direct pasting from the clipboard. A note saved from a web page automatically remembers the page title and its URL, making it easier to access the information later.

Rice. 3. Structuring notes in CintaNotes
using tags

Finding the note you need is not difficult: just start typing the name of a tag or keyword in the search bar, and as you type, only those entries from the database that contain the entered combination of characters will be displayed in the list. If necessary, it is easy to narrow the search range by limiting it to only headings, only the text of notes, etc. Even if information on a general topic ends up in different notes, this will not complicate working with the data, especially since the program provides the ability to merge selected notes. Synchronizing notes between multiple PCs is supported using free online services such as DropBox (https://www.dropbox.com/).

Developer: Softvoile

Distribution size: 2.19 MB

Work under control: Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/7

Flashnote is a convenient tree-based text note manager. The program has a regular and portable version (3 MB) - the latter can work from a USB drive or any folder without installation.

Notes in Flashnote are stored in a tree view (Figure 4) and can be easily dragged and dropped from folder to folder. Creating a new note is carried out in three stages: you need to copy the text to the clipboard, press the key combination Win+Alt+S (to switch to the program window) and create a new note. As a result, the text copied to the clipboard will be automatically pasted into the created note.

Rice. 4. Storing notes in Flashnote as a tree

To find the note you need, just enter a keyword - notes that match the request are viewed sequentially. Synchronizing notes between PCs is also easy: you can synchronize notes using Dropbox, via local folder on your hard drive or a shared network folder in local network. In addition, it is worth noting that there is support for multiple databases, which allows you to store different types of notes in isolation (say, work-related notes in one database, and personal notes in another).

Services for taking notes

There are not very many services designed for storing notes on the Internet. We'll focus on the three most popular: Evernote (http://www.evernote.com/http://springpadit.com/http://simplenoteapp.com/). All three services support work with PCs and a variety of mobile devices, which is very convenient because you can save information from one device and access it from another.

Evernote and Springpad allow you to create a wide variety of note types (including saving images and audio), to which you can attach files as needed, and provide the ability to conveniently organize your notes into notebooks. At the same time, the Evernote service is especially interesting for such a function as optical text recognition (including handwritten text), and the Springpad service is attractive due to the level of implementation of social functions, which makes it easier to exchange notes with other people. The capabilities of the SimpleNote service are more modest and are limited to support for text notes. However, this service also has many fans who prefer it over more famous competitors for its extraordinary speed, ease of working with notes and minimalism.

In technical terms, using the services does not cause any difficulties. First, you need to create your account on the appropriate resource. Then, if you plan to work through a client program, you need to download the client program and install it on the appropriate device (each type of device uses its own client - one for a PC, another for an Android device, etc.). If you work via the web interface, you do not need to download anything, since notes are managed directly in the Internet browser.

Evernote is a service for saving, synchronizing and searching notes. It allows you to remember a variety of information when working on Mac and Windows computers, as well as a wide range of portable devices(mobile platforms supported: iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone 7, Web OS). Work is carried out through the web interface or from the client program. The capabilities provided by this service depend on the selected tariff. In the case of the Free tariff, users are allowed to download no more than 60 MB per month, while the maximum “weight” of a note (including attached files) is 25 MB. When choosing the Premium commercial plan ($45 per year), the maximum amount of data downloaded per month can reach 1 GB, and the “weight” of a note is limited to 50 MB. The commercial plan has other advantages - the most important of which is the ability to jointly edit notes with several users, which turns Evernote into a powerful tool for collaboration on projects. It is also worth noting support for offline notepads (available for iOS and Android), the ability to search in images inside PDF documents, and more efficient processing of images with printed and handwritten text during recognition.

Evernote notes are placed in notebooks, organized in a linear structure, and they can be easily dragged from notebook to notebook, and, if necessary, combined. For ease of subsequent search, notes can be provided with tags (including nested ones). Notebooks can be online and offline (not synchronized with the server, which is important for notebooks with private information), as well as personal and open for sharing with other (all or selected) users. You can enter notes into a notebook in different ways, depending on the device from which the notes are created (Fig. 5). When working on a desktop computer, the fastest way is to send selections via a web clipper. Such web clippers are currently developed only for IE, Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome(additions for Firefox browsers and Google Chrome must be installed manually). When creating notes through a webclipper, the user needs to select the necessary fragments of the page, click on the Evernote button and select the notepad in which it will be saved. Via webclipper it is also very easy to implement quick way saving web pages and their URLs in a notepad. In addition, you can very quickly copy graphic images from web pages (by dragging them into an Evernote notebook) and screenshots (using hotkeys). There are other ways to send notes to a notepad - by e-mail, from the Twitter service, etc.

Rice. 5. Taking Evernote notes while surfing via the web interface
in Google Chrome

The ability to quickly access the notes you need is also impressive - by sorting or searching, which is carried out by keywords and can even be used to find information in printed and handwritten text in images, as well as in PDF documents with scanned text (the latter only for the Premium plan ). This significantly expands the capabilities and allows, for example, to save pictures taken with a phone with any useful information (pictures of business cards with contact information, pictures of notes made with a marker on a board during a meeting, etc.) with support for searching for data in relevant documents (for example, search by business cards - Fig. 6).

Rice. 6. Text search result
in scanned Evernote documents in the Windows client

It is possible to conduct a search taking into account filters - content type, source of receipt of the note, date, etc. As for synchronization, it is performed by clients automatically (after a specified number of minutes) or upon request.

Springpad - a web service for creating and managing diverse notes; Positioned as the best-known alternative to Evernote, it features faster performance and enhanced social support. With its help, it is easy to take notes as you work on a desktop computer (only through the web interface, since the developers do not yet offer client programs for Windows and Mac OS), as well as on mobile devices (Android devices, iPhone and iPad) through client programs. Access to the service is completely free, the amount of data uploaded to servers by the developer is not limited, but the maximum “weight” of a note (including attached files) is 5 MB.

Notes in Springpad are stored in notepads pinned to the whiteboard (Fig. 7) and can be moved/copied from notebook to notebook. The contents of all notebooks are stored in a common “box” called All My Stuff, through which it is easy to access all saved entries, displayed in the form of a chronological feed. To simplify orientation, each note can be assigned tags (to speed up the entry of tags, a pop-up list with tags for the first letter entered in the tag field is opened), priorities, ratings, etc. Notes in Springpad (unlike Evernote) can be of many different types - these are regular notes, tasks, events, shopping lists, recipes, books, movies, etc.; Naturally, the set of fields for different types of notes is different. You are allowed to attach a comment, link, image (Fig. 8), video or file to each entry and, if necessary, set a reminder. Notes can be flagged and be private or public; posts with public status can be shared with other users in many ways (by sending a link, via Twitter, Facebook, etc.).

Rice. 7. Electronic whiteboard with Springpad notepads

Rice. 8. Attaching an Image to a Springpad Note

You can create notes in different ways. For example, when working through the web interface when surfing in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, the fastest way to take notes is using the Springpad add-on (you will need to install it). In this case, it is enough to select the desired fragment on the page and use the appropriate command from the context menu. Installing this add-on will also provide quick access to notebooks directly from the browser. There is another convenient way to save web fragments - using a web clipper (installed manually and supported only for IE 8, Firefox, Safari and Chrome browsers). Using the webclipper, selected fragments are entered into notebooks by clicking on the Spring It! (appears in the bookmarks bar after installation). From mobile devices, data can also be added from built-in mobile applications- this way, for example, you can quickly add a photo or scanned barcode. In addition, notes can be created by drag-and-drop and using hotkeys, copied from the clipboard, sent to notepads via email, etc.

To quickly gain access to the necessary materials, it is easy to resort to sorting using the specified filters, open a list of records related to a specific tag or record type (for example, “task” or “recipe”), look at records marked with a flag, or use the built-in search. The latter, unfortunately, provides search only in an open notepad - which means that to search through all documents you will need to switch to the All My Stuff section. Synchronization of notes on devices with the Springpad service is performed automatically. Offline access to notes is currently only available for Chrome browser(add-on required), however, the developers promise to provide this opportunity to users of other browsers in the near future. It's also worth noting that Springpad supports many social services- in particular Twitter (sending alerts and reminders), Google (synchronizing contacts and events), Facebook (creating contacts based on your Facebook friends list), etc., which allows you to easily exchange interesting materials with other users.

SimpleNote is a service for saving, synchronizing and searching notes. Provides quick work with text notes on iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch), as well as on PCs running Windows control and Mac OS - through the web interface or client applications from third-party developers (for example, ResophNotes as a client for Windows). Users are offered two tariffs to choose from - free Free and commercial Premium ($19.99 per year). The free plan provides a basic level of support with no restrictions on the amount of downloaded data and the size of notes. The paid plan provides a number of additional features: synchronization with the Dropbox service, creating notes by email, editing notes in the form of a list (only in the iOS client) and generating your own RSS feed of notes.

Notes in SimpleNote have a linear structure and are placed sequentially one after another with automatic alphabetical sorting (Fig. 9). You can assign tags (one or more) to individual records; you can also “pin” important notes with a pin, which ensures that they are always displayed at the top of the list (when working on a work note via the web interface). Creating notes here requires less effort from the user than in the previously discussed services - in the simplest case, it is enough to create an empty note with one click and drag the selected information into it.

Rice. 9. Taking notes in a SimpleNote notepad via the web interface

To quickly gain access to the data you are interested in, you can filter records by tags or search using keywords. You can work with notes offline from mobile devices. Notes are synchronized automatically after a period of time specified in the settings and/or on demand.

Conclusion

We looked at two different options for working with notes - using specialized utilities and through online note services. The choice of the most preferable option is left up to the user, since everything is individual and depends on the type of data that has to be dealt with, the list of devices that are supposed to be used for working with notes, as well as the preferred interface option.

In general, utilities are more attractive in terms of the speed of accessing notes, and the undoubted advantage of the services is that they allow you to save notes on almost any device with access to the Internet and provide mobile access to saved materials. If the user is only interested in working with text data, then it is wiser to adopt one of the considered free utilities(CintaNotes or Flashnote) or use the Simplenote service. Why? It's simple - these solutions represent the fastest and easiest way to manage text notes, while the SimpleNote service also provides access to data from mobile devices and any computer at hand.

If you need to save various types of information, then you cannot do without more solid solutions - for example, the Aml Pages utility or the Evernote or Springpad services. The Aml Pages utility may be of interest to users for whom broad functionality for working with saved materials is important - powerful search, advanced formatting, highlighting, etc. The Evernote service is ideal as a professional tool for storing business information, and the Springpad service, in our opinion, is more suitable for storing personal information - that is, notes on interests. Both resources provide mobile access to data from anywhere different devices, however, they require a high-speed connection because they are quite heavy to download (especially Evernote).

Evernote management's decision to significantly limit functionality free version note-taking programs have forced users to look for alternative applications. Luckily, there are plenty to choose from.

Bear

It's a very easy to use yet powerful app that lets you combine text, photos, to-do lists, and code snippets. Bear supports more than 20 programming languages. The application makes it easy to find notes and helps you focus on specific things using triggers such as @task, @tagged, @files.

The note taker is compatible with iMessage and Apple smart watches. The user can expand the capabilities of the program by subscribing, which costs $15 per year. The Pro version allows you to convert notes into PDF, HTML, Word documents, and also synchronize them between devices.

The main feature of Bear Notes is its design. Simple, not distracting. It brings to mind the best apps for writers like iWriter, Ulysses, and Matcha. This is unusual for a note-taking app. Many people are used to folders and powerful functions, everything that is not focused on the main task of the user - writing down your idea. Even Evernote, with its recent update Evernote 8.0, has excelled at this.

Organization is another one. Typically, note-taking apps revolve around folders, notepads, and binders. They bury you in their wild habits.

Bear works against all of this with simple and clean hash tags.

With the rise of Slack and communication tools built around hash tags, Bear decided to take a leap of faith and allow users to manage notes using hash tags within notes. It worked, it's a neat way of organization and a fundamental change in the way we work with notes.

The response to Bear has been overwhelmingly positive and thousands of Evernote users have decided to change their core note-taking experience.

Today we want to correct this mistake and introduce you to Zoho Notebook. Zoho Notebook makes no secret of the fact that it claims to be the “Evernote killer.” And to support its ambitions, it presents a clear visual comparison of the capabilities of these two note-taking applications.

Hi all! I keep digging App Store in search of the best applications. Today it will be ten best programs for taking notes on your iPad. The top is compiled based on personal preferences and experience.

Apple Notes

It’s no wonder that the top 10 are opened by standard notes that are part of the iOS operating system. Over the course of several years, notes have undergone such global changes for the better that most users of this program are enough for the eyes. Their biggest advantage is that all functionality is free. The disadvantage is that if you have a computer other than Mac OS, working with notes is not so convenient.

They have folders, password protection, photo insertion, picture editor, tables, lists, etc.

Built into iOS! :)

Evernote

A very old and well-deserved application. With it you can be sure of one thing - the program will be supported and updated by the developers. Over the years, Evernote has acquired a bunch of useful features and has become almost the most functional service for notes.

But for everything good you have to pay - if you make the application the main one, you will have to fork out for a subscription. My wife uses it as a backup program for ideas, so the free functionality is enough for her.

Bear

One of those applications that I tested and tested, but never tested. I've been using Bear for a couple of weeks as an alternative to standard notes.

The app is great. I didn't have any complaints about him. There are all the goodies of notes - cataloging, a drawing editor, lists, multi-platform, etc. But I still couldn’t justify to myself why I need it for a subscription (99 rubles per month), if there are built-in notes from Apple with approximately the same functionality.

Notability

But I bought Notability a long, long time ago. And it’s nice that the program is still being updated and does not introduce any subscriptions. This is another cool alternative to taking notes. The program has most of the functions of standard notes, but differs in additional options that I described in the review.

Among the impressive functions: converting handwritten inscriptions into printed text, support for audio notes, opportunities for writing beautiful handwritten lines when writing, notes in PDF, etc.

The program opens when you use the stylus.

Microsoft OneNote

Application included in the package Microsoft Office. Since 2014 it has become absolutely free. The product appeared in 2003 in connection with the appearance of the first tablet computers, because Microsoft wanted to make handwritten notes convenient.

In addition to the popular recording features, there is a general notes option. Suitable for fans office suite. The fact is that the interface in One Note is made exactly the same as in Excel or Word, which is familiar to many.

PDF Expert

Application for professional work with PDF. There is a file cataloger, adding pictures to PDF, filling out forms, annotations and other options. Cons: The app is expensive. For full functionality you need to pay $20 (read the description in the App Store carefully) and another $59 for a license for 3 Macs.

MyScript Sky

The program uses advanced MyScript Interactive Ink technology for writing. The app has a mandatory Apple Pencil requirement. MyScript Nebo can convert handwritten notes into text and has a nice built-in editor.

Whink

Whink allows you to write handwritten texts very beautifully, thanks to its special technology. The lines and all sorts of shapes turn out very smooth.

Among other things, Whink, like other applications, allows you to add external objects to diagrams. Thanks to this, various diagrams and sketches look very attractive. The program is 2 years old and is updated quite regularly.

LiquidText PDF Reader

This is another one great program for taking notes in PDF. The program is designed to work with a stylus, emphasizing all its advantages. Apple recognized the application as the most innovative in 2015. The uniqueness of the program is that it allows you to combine various notes into a single space. Linked objects can be from different documents and will work like footnotes.

You can try the program for free and, if desired, activate the PRO version through in-app purchases.

iFontMaker

And this application comes as a bonus to the previous nine. After all, this is not a program for taking notes, but something unique. iFontMaker allows you to create your own handwritten font, which you can later install on Mac OS or Windows.

The user needs to manually enter all the letters and numbers, and then export the finished font file. The program is very specific...
