How to protect your computer from viruses. How to protect your computer from viruses? Installing an antivirus program

Unfortunately, any computer user has encountered viruses and malware. What this threatens is not worth mentioning - at a minimum, all data will be lost and you will have to spend time formatting the disk and reinstalling the system. Thus, to avoid unnecessary trouble, it is better to prevent them. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure.

1. Caution when opening messages in social networks

One rule to remember is that you can significantly increase your chances of avoiding viruses if you review your messages before you open them. If something looks suspicious and incomprehensible files are attached to the message, you should not open them at all (or at least scan them with an antivirus).

2. Up-to-date antivirus

The antivirus offered by ISPs is not enough to protect the entire computer system from viruses and spyware. For this reason, it is better to install additional protection against malware.

3. Daily computer scan

Despite the installation of anti-virus programs and anti-malware tools, it will still be better to perform a daily scan of the hard drive to make sure that not a single virus has made its way into the system. In fact, every day you can "catch" a whole bunch of viruses, so the only way to reduce the damage is to scan files daily.

4. Avast free antivirus

The creators of Avast antivirus have simplified the work with this program to the maximum. All you need is just to press a couple of buttons. At the same time, Avast provides sufficient protection against viruses - both Trojans and worms.

5. SuperAntiSpyware

SUPERAntiSpyware is an all-inclusive antivirus. It can be used to fight spyware, adware, trojans, worms, keyloggers, rootkits, etc. However, it will not slow down your computer.

6. Firewall

This is a basic rule that all computer users should understand. Although the use of a firewall is not effective in trapping Internet worms, it is still very important in combating potential infection from a user's internal network (eg office network).

7. AVG Internet Security

Ideal for home and commercial use, this protection is notable for including the help of internet security experts. It is constantly updated and has advanced features. AVG Internet Security can be used to fight viruses, spyware and trojans and can also help prevent identity theft and other web exploits.

8. Avira AntiVir

Avira offers an improved way to remove malware, including residual files from viruses. However, users should be careful as a fake version of the program is being circulated on the Internet. Avira also features a simplified, intuitive user interface.

9.Kaspersky Internet Security

This antivirus essentially contains everything that a computer user must have to work safely and reliably with the Internet. It can be used to secure transactions at work, processing banking transactions, including online purchases and online games.

10. Ad-Aware and Avast-Free

Ad-Aware provides free antivirus protection. It was specifically designed to be installed simultaneously with Google Chrome, but may also work with any other browser. It is effective in preventing malware from automatically running on Windows and cleaning up the computer.

11. ESET Online Scanner

For an effective anti-malware solution, ESET Online Scanner offers a premium security package that includes literally everything. It also knows how to clean already infected machines and use an online firewall.

I welcome you to the new material on the topic of computer security. In the previous video tutorials, we made sure that antivirus tools can not always protect our computer.

Also, judging by the comments from the lesson on firewall reliability, many are convinced that their computer quite calmly allows information to be sent from their computers in any direction.

If you haven't watched these tutorials yet, here are the links:

All this leads to completely logical conclusions: you need to make security settings, configure or install another antivirus and firewall.

As promised, this article will cover the issues of complex computer settings.

How to protect your computer from viruses?

So let's get started.

Malicious objects are divided into viruses and worms. The main difference is in the principle of their distribution.

Viruses enter the computer mainly when a program is launched. For example, together with autorun removable media. Worms, in turn, get on users' computers through local networks and the Internet.

In addition, there are combinations of viruses and worms. There are practically no pure viruses or worms left. To have a better chance of distribution, they have to work hand in hand. That is why they often just say "viruses" and that's it.

The main task is to know what to do in order not to infect a computer with a malicious object. Therefore, it is important to know the main ways of infecting a computer.

Ways to infect a computer:

- Removable media;
- Local networks;
- Internet.

First of all, of course, infection occurs via the Internet (downloading files from sites, visiting malicious pages with active content, clicking on malicious links or running malicious, fake programs downloaded from the Internet).

1. Windows update

The penetration of viruses into the operating system occurs through its vulnerabilities. Since viruses find more and more "holes" in Windows, security updates are mandatory. You may not need to install all updates, but installing security updates is an important condition in the fight against malicious objects.

Unfortunately or fortunately, we cannot know in detail what exactly these updates fix, therefore, we have to trust Microsoft that their updates are really needed. From my own experience, I can say that it becomes noticeably harder to deal with viruses on my computer if updates are disabled.

2. Remote Assistance

With the Remote Assistance feature, you can make connections remotely to your computer. In order to protect yourself from this vulnerable function, it is advisable to disable it and use third-party programs if necessary.

3. Windows Services

Disable unnecessary vulnerable services that are enabled by default in Windows. For example, these services can be disabled exactly: netbios support module, remote desktop server configuration, service remote control Windows.

4. User Account Control

In the operating room Windows system With each version, the User Account Control feature improves. With this feature, Windows tries to monitor all activity on the system and warn the user about the launch or installation of any program. For reliability and greater security set control above average.

5. User with limited rights

If a virus penetrates your computer and intercepts the user's functions, it will not be able to fully perform all the functions of the system, since a user with limited rights cannot change system functions and install programs.

6. Public wifi networks

When working in public wireless networks(train stations, airports, cafes) use the function when connected to the "public network". While connected to such a network, do not manually enter passwords and logins to your accounts. Keyloggers on these networks can often read all the information you enter. Using social networks turn on secure connection by protocol https.

7. Browsers

Use Google browser Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. For a long time, I have determined that they are the most protected. Make sure your browsers are always up to date.

It is very dangerous to store saved passwords in the browser, you can't even imagine how easy it is to read all the passwords by launching a small trojan into the system. There are a few more settings that need to be made in the browser, but we will talk about this in more detail in separate lessons.

8. Checking removable media

Scan all removable media (flash drives, disks) with any antivirus tool before opening them. Also disable autorun of all removable media, as this is the main source of viruses from these media.

9. Working with email

Do not use mail programs, use mail through a browser. It is easier for viruses to get into the mail program on your computer than into mail opened with a browser. As a last resort, use well-protected email programs such as The Bat.

10. Antivirus programs

Despite the settings operating system and browser, the installation of anti-virus software is required. If it seems to you that the antivirus only harms the system and you can do without it, then this is a delusion.

stable Windows operation without antivirus tools, it's only a matter of time. Most users can work without antivirus for a long time and not get infected just by a lucky chance. The importance and necessity of an antivirus is a separate topic for conversation.

I recommend you install antivirus (Avast, AVG, Avira, Kaspersky, Dr. Web, NOD32), firewall (COMODO, Emsisoft, Outpost) and antispyware (MalwareBytes, SpyBot). Some anti-virus products include anti-virus, firewall, and anti-spyware features.

Details of working with anti-virus tools, their settings and proper use will be discussed in other lessons on computer security.

Please answer 2 questions:

- What viruses have you encountered?
- And how did you remove these viruses?

Your information will be useful to other users who read this article.

Our video tutorial coming soon "Comprehensive PC protection".

These are more than 100 computer security lessons that will help you set up your computer for maximum security, as well as fight viruses if they enter your computer.

Hello dear friends!

I decided to write an article that, it would seem, has nothing to do with trading. Today we'll talk about how to protect your computer from viruses. Agree, the topic is quite important and in demand, since in our time almost everyone uses a personal computer and high-speed Internet.

Turning on your computer one "beautiful" day, you began to notice that it somehow strangely works, or does not work at all, or with hard drive all the information is gone, you can't open your email inbox, or go to your favorite social network, or maybe you can't go to the Internet at all. I think you are familiar with this?

I, as a professional IT specialist, want to give you some elementary step-by-step tips that will help protect your computer from viruses, hacking and loss of important information. So let's get started.

It is important to understand that it is one thing to protect a "clean" computer from viruses, it is completely different if the computer is already infected. In this case, you must first "cure" such a computer, and only then think about protecting it.

I am sure that most of you use operating systems of the Windows family (XP, Vista, Seven (7), 8) in your work. And the first thing we'll do is try protect your computer from viruses regular means.

Step 1: Install updates for the operating systemWindows

There are many "homegrown programmers" who think they are smarter than Microsoft developers. These "programmers" assume that there is no need to install updates, and automatic update should be disabled. This is wrong. Developers strive to constantly fix some kind of malfunctions, eliminate vulnerabilities and create these same updates that the user can either install on the computer on their own or entrust this to the operating system.

Now I will show you how to install these updates manually and automatically.

If you are a user of the Windows 7 operating system, then you need to do the following series of steps. Open menu "Start" - "Control Panel".

Then, in the window that opens, select the menu item "Update centreWindows» :

Next click on the link "Search for Updates", wait for some time until the system connects to the update server. Then click on the link "Important updates...". We mark all mandatory updates (optional can be ignored) and click on "OK". We are waiting for the installation to complete and restart the computer. Ready!

As you can see, I have (at the time of this writing) only one update not installed. You can have up to several hundred of them. Accordingly, it will take from several minutes to several hours to wait for the installation to complete.

Now we just need to configure the automatic installation of updates. To do this, in the window "Update CenterWindows» go to menu item "Settings". Then we do as shown in the figure below:

Well, we figured out the updates of the Windows operating system. As you can see, nothing complicated.

Step 2Turn on the firewallWindows

Our next step is to check if the firewall is enabled. A firewall is a thing that checks incoming information from the Internet (or other network) and, depending on the settings, blocks it or not. It is important to understand that a firewall is not an antivirus program and will not protect your computer from viruses. Its task is to protect the computer from hackers or malware (such as worms, for example). Graphically, the principle of its operation can be displayed something like this:

In order to enable it, you need to go to "Control Panel"(how to do this, I wrote above) and select the menu item "BranmauerWindows» . Then, in the window that opens, select "Enabling or disabling the firewallWindows» :

Of course, you can get into its settings and manually specify which connections to block and which not, but in this case, you may experience problems with the performance of some programs and access to certain sites.

The built-in firewall of the windows system is a rather primitive program and does not provide full protection against intrusion from the outside. However, it's better than nothing. If you want more serious protection, you can install special program, which is called Firewall. The methods of operation of these programs are the same as those of the built-in firewall, but they will require certain knowledge and skills in setting them up. The “set it and forget it” principle, unfortunately, does not work here.

  1. ComodofirewallFree(you can download from this link). Excellent firewall. Supports Russian language, absolutely free.
  2. ZoneAlarm(you can download from this link). Very good firewall. Also free, but in English.
  3. Outpost Firewall(download Here). There are paid and free versions. A wonderful firewall, but quite difficult to set up.

I personally installed these programs more than once, and they never let me down. But once again I want to remind you that these programs must be properly configured. If you want to install them on your computer, then be sure to first read on the Internet about the correct setting, or write to me and I will try to help you.

If you plan to install a firewall on your computer, then there is no need to enable and configure the built-in firewall. Most likely, during installation, the firewall will turn it off automatically.

Step 3. Installing an antivirus software.

A very important step, which should be approached with all seriousness. I think that I should not tell you what viruses are and what harm they can do to your computer. I will just give you a few recommendations for choosing an antivirus product based on my many years of experience and hundreds of infected and cured computers.

So, there are two types of antiviruses. The first are simply anti-virus programs whose task is to find, remove viruses and protect your computer from them. And the second ones are complex solutions that, in addition to fighting viruses, can also protect against external threats (anti-hackers, anti-spyware, phishing protection, etc.). This is the so-called Internet Security (antivirus + firewall).

From free antivirus software I would point out the following:

  • Comodoantivirus(we can download).
  • Avast(download).
  • Avira Free Antivirus(download link).
  • AVG AntiVirus 2013 free(download).

The best comprehensive antivirus solutions:

  • KasperskyInternetSecurity(learn more and) - the best (in my opinion) program that contains many different modules: anti-spam, anti-banner, antivirus (file, mail, web), firewall, secure payments and much more. Of the minuses, it is worth noting that it is paid (but it's worth it, it gives almost 100% computer protection from viruses) and requires (like any other software package) proper configuration. I have on home computer installed KasperskyInternetSecurity 2013 .
  • ComodoInternetSecurity(download) - absolutely free and Russian-language complex antivirus. Not much inferior to Kaspersky antivirus. I have it installed on my work laptop. Provides excellent protection and has never let me down.

You can also install Dr. Web, Avast, Avira, AVG, Outpost. In the extended edition, their functionality is very serious, but you will have to pay for their use.

Step 4 Surf the Internet safely.

We all spend a lot of time on the Internet and visit an incredible number of sites. Someone visits thematic sites, forums and blogs. Someone is interested in news, someone is interested in entertainment sites and social networks. And by accessing an unfamiliar site, you expose your computer to a potential threat of infection.

To avoid this, in addition to everything that I wrote above, you need to install a reliable browser. If, suddenly, someone does not know the browser - this is a program that allows you to "browse" web pages.

To date, there is an incredible variety of such programs in which it is very easy to get confused. I will give you specific recommendations for choosing a browser based on my experience of more than a decade of "talking" with the Internet.

So, first, forget about using the browser Internet Explorer. Extremely vulnerable and unsafe program. The same can be said for the Opera browser.

I recommend two browsers: Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Moreover, if everything is clear with Mozilla, just go to the developer's website and download it, then with Chrome the situation is more confusing. This program is very popular nowadays and everyone uses it for their needs. search engines. These include:

  • Google Chrome
  • Chrome from mail.ru
  • Yandex browser
  • Rambler-nichrome

Do not install these programs under any circumstances! Because they are literally "stuffed" with a variety of tracking modules that send all the information collected about the user (where, when and how much time spent on a particular page) to their developers.

If you are users of the Chrome browser and do not want to change it, then I recommend you Comodo Dragon (you can download it). This is by far the best Chrome I have ever used (and continue to use). By the way, they also have a wonderful modification for Firefox - Comodo IceDragon (download link), which I also use.

That's all for me. Now you have enough information about how to protect your computer from viruses. Once again, I want to reiterate that all the recommendations that I gave on the choice of software are based solely on my many years of experience. If you have a different point of view and would like to share your experience, then please write about it in the comments.

Helpful advice

The Real-time protection feature can significantly slow down the performance of your computer.

The abundance of all kinds of viruses, trojans and other malicious programs on the Internet leaves the user no choice, forcing them to install antivirus programs. Everyone can do it - it is not necessary to call a specialist.

Instruction

To begin with, decide whether you are ready to pay for the use of a powerful antivirus with an ever-growing up-to-date virus base, or whether you will make some compromise by putting free program, which may be powerless against some virus attacks. However, even paid apps have a 30-day trial period during which you can decide.

If you're on the path of least resistance and opt for a free product, check out Avast's popular free antivirus! It can be downloaded from the official website of the developers at www.avast.com. Open the site, go to the "Home" section and click the "Download" button, which is located in the column with the Free Antivirus software product. Once the download is complete, open the file and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

If you have firmly decided to choose the most reliable and full-featured antivirus, but have not yet decided whether to pay for it, go to one of the websites of leading antivirus application developers: www.kaspersky.ru and www.drweb.com. Carefully study the presented range of programs, make a choice according to your needs (for home, for, one or more computers, etc.) and download a 30-day free version any antivirus you like.

To download one of the Kaspersky Lab applications, go to the "Download" section on the main page of the website and follow the link "Free trial versions". Select an application and click the "Download" button. To download an antivirus from Dr.Web, open the "Demo" section on the official website, and proceed in the same way.

After downloading the installation file, install the program. To do this, you will need to run the file itself, and then click the "Next" button several times - all programs are installed according to the same principle, and the antivirus is no exception. As soon as the installation is completed, the application will be launched automatically, the anti-virus database updates will be downloaded, and your computer will be under protection from that moment on.

note

After the end of the trial period, you can at any time get a license to continue using the product by paying already installed program on the developer's site.

If you need to open access to a specific computer to other users, then it is recommended to disable most degrees of protection. Be aware that this leaves your PC vulnerable to Internet viruses.

Instruction

First turn off a separate firewall if you are using the appropriate program. The leader in this area is the Outpost Firewall utility. Suspend the firewall or turn off this program.

Disable your antivirus program. If it is possible to disable only the traffic inspector built into it, then use it. Otherwise, right-click on the antivirus icon and select "Turn Off" or "Suspend". Now press the Ctrl, Alt and Del keys at the same time. Open Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes menu. Find your antivirus in running tasks and right-click on it. Select "End Process" and confirm this operation.

If you still cannot access your computer after these procedures, disable the standard Windows Firewall. Open the start menu and open the control panel. Go to the "System and Security" menu. Find the "Administration" submenu and open it. Double-click the left mouse button on the "Services" shortcut.

Find "Windows Firewall" among the running processes. Right-click on it and select Stop. Confirm to disable this service. Now right click again and go to the firewall properties. Open the "General" tab and find the item "Startup type". Select the "Disabled" option for it. Click the "Apply" button and close the working window. Follow the same disabling procedures for Windows Defender and Security Center services.

Restart your computer and make sure that disabled programs and services have not been restarted. Try accessing the computer using other networked PCs. Do not connect your computer to the Internet using the specified settings for the antivirus and services.

A computer that is not protected by an antivirus program and a firewall is very vulnerable to hacker attacks. For reliable protection against viruses and Trojans, you must not only install the appropriate software, but also configure it correctly.

Instruction

First of all, check if the firewall (firewall) is enabled. To do this, open: "Start - Control Panel - Windows Firewall". If the firewall is disabled, select Enable. Keep in mind that the built-in Windows firewall is not strong enough, so it would be better to install a third-party firewall.

The Windows operating system does not have its own built-in antivirus program, so you must install it. The most popular are such as Dr. Web, Avira, Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Panda, ESET NOD32. These programs can be downloaded from the manufacturer's websites.

The most user-friendly are programs that combine the functions of an antivirus program and a firewall, such as Dr.Web Security Space or Kaspersky Internet Security. Choose the first one if you want to work calmly, without thinking about the settings and not being distracted by various reminders of the antivirus program for minor reasons. The second is more suitable for those who prefer to set everything up themselves.

Most anti-virus programs require license keys; you can purchase them from manufacturers' websites. Free demo versions are also available to test the effectiveness of the antivirus program and its ease of use.

After installing an anti-virus program, be sure to set up automatic updating of anti-virus databases. In this case, your computer will be protected most fully. Remember that two anti-virus programs cannot be installed on the computer at the same time - for example, Dr.Web and Kaspersky anti-virus.

Even installed antivirus with daily updated databases does not guarantee 100% protection against viruses and Trojans. Therefore, from time to time check the computer with additional utilities - for example, the AnVir Task Manager program. It allows you to see all the processes running in the system, easily find the files of running programs and their autorun keys, with its help you can track current Internet connections.

No matter how well your computer is protected, there is always the possibility of losing sensitive data. Therefore, do not store important data in open form, it is better to pack them into an archive and set a password on it. Do not save passwords from your accounts in browsers, enter them from the keyboard.

Do not use bank cards with large amounts on them for purchases on the Internet, get a separate card for this purpose or use a virtual one. Do not download or run suspicious files, do not follow links in emails from people you do not know. Following these simple security measures will help you just as much as installing the best antivirus program.

To ensure a high level of security personal computer It is recommended to use antivirus software. All antiviruses can be conditionally divided into paid applications and programs that do not require a license to use.

You will need

  • Internet access.

Instruction

It is important to understand that certain antivirus software is free for home use only. Be sure to consider this feature when choosing the antivirus that suits you.

Select an antivirus application. The most popular programs that do not require a license are the following antiviruses: Avast, Comodo Internet Security, Avira and AVG.

Visit the website of the developers of the selected antivirus software. Find the downloads section and go to the list of free versions of applications.

Click the "Download" or "Upload" button. Wait a while until necessary files will be copied to HDD your computer.

Run the installer. Follow the step by step menu to complete the installation of the antivirus software. Before that, it is strongly recommended to remove all existing analogues so as not to cause malfunctions in the operating system.

Restart the computer after the installation of the anti-virus program components is complete. Make sure that this application starts automatically after login. Some antiviruses require activation of a free license. Perform this procedure using the antivirus software menu.

An increased level of security can be provided by a firewall program. Select a free application that belongs to the specified group. For beginners, it is better to use software that has a friendly interface and allows you to easily create rules for applications, such as Comodo Firewall.

Download the selected software from the developer's site. Install firewall and restart your computer. Set up the program settings. This process is usually carried out within a week, because warning windows will appear every time you start new programs, applications and utilities.

All this leads to completely logical conclusions: you need to make security settings, configure or install another antivirus and firewall.

As promised, this article will cover the issues of complex computer settings.

This is a squeeze of the best recommendations collected in recent years on our own observations and constant tests of our system. More than 20 different programs and thousands of newly collected viruses were taken for tests.

Despite the settings of the operating system and browser, the installation of anti-virus programs is necessary. If it seems to you that the antivirus only harms the system and you can do without it, then this is a delusion.

Stable operation of Windows without anti-virus tools is only a matter of time.
