How to use and what commands in Russian Google Now understands. How to set up Google Feed on an Android device And again about location

When Google first released Google Now, it was celebrated by Android users across the board. However, when changes to Google Feed occurred, these changes were less accepted. But News Feed is a great thing if you just take the time to set it up.

However, before we talk about setting up your feed, let's first talk a little about what makes it different from Google Now, other than the name. First, let's get one thing straight: Google Feed/Google Now is part of the Google app.

And for better or worse, Feed is an evolution of Now. It takes everything that's great about Now and goes one step further - which is actually what most people don't like about Feed. Instead of making your appointments and other important information, Feed focuses on the latest news that interests you on the main page, but everything related to personal information has not disappeared - it's just now in another tab in Google app.

This is admittedly a bit confusing. If you're used to opening the Google app to see your cards in Now, but instead it's presented with a variety of news stories that you may (or may not) be interested in, then you'll likely want to delete it.

That's why you should spend some time on your feed, customizing it to your taste. You can get the latest news on what you need with one click, or click one button and view important personal information.

How to Access Google Feed

First, there are several ways to access your Google feed. If you're using a Pixel or Nexus device with Pixel Launcher, then you can simply scroll to the very left of the home screen and there it is - Google Feed.

However, if you are using another device or another launcher and the application is not built into it, then you will need to launch the Google application. If you're using Nova Launcher, you can even customize what the home button on your home screen does to launch Google Feed (which is still called "Google Now" in Nova).

How to set up Google Feed

Setting up Google Feed is very simple. There are several ways to do this, and we'll talk about both.

To customize your Feed in Pixel Launcher and the Google app, open your Feed and tap the three dots in the top right corner of an article and select Customize Articles.

In the “Customize Feed” menu, you can start adding your interests. Start by clicking the "Subscribe to Topics" button.

You will be taken to a category selection page: sports, TV shows, movies, musicians, etc. Click on one of them to continue.

You can view the list of offers and click the "+" icon in the top right corner to add one. Do this for all articles of interest in each category! The more time you spend selecting topics that interest you, the better your feed will look.

You can also add specific topics without digging through different categories. Just click the magnifying glass in the top right corner, then search for a topic.

When you find your topic, simply tap the + symbol to add the topic to your list of interests.

Once you are done with this, simply click "Done" on the interests page.

To view all the topics you are subscribed to, or unsubscribe from certain topics, you can scroll through the Feed Settings page. This will give you a quick overview of all your subscriptions - just click the 'Open Settings' button under each category to view the details.

The options available here may vary from category to category. For example, the Sports category will have dedicated buttons for notifications, as well as highlights and more.

Manage specific content in your feed

Since Google also uses your search history when creating your feed, it will include things that you find interesting. So, let's say you scroll through your feed and see news regarding V.V. Putin. If you are interested in this topic and want more news like this, then click the button with three dots in the upper right corner of the card of this story, then click the “Subscribe” button.

Likewise, if you see something that doesn't interest you, you can hide that specific article, block a specific website, or skip articles from that specific topic altogether. This is a fairly flexible setup.

If you accidentally delete a topic from your feed or mark something as “not interesting,” you can return to the Feed Settings screen and then select “View all settings” for that category. At the very bottom you should see what you marked as “not interesting” - just click the “x” next to it to remove it from the list of not interesting.

The Google app itself also has some great features. The bottom navigation bar will help you: it has fast access to search, as well as a "Recent" button where you can see your search history and everything else you've done in the Google app.

is a predictive search tool from Google Inc, implemented in the Google Search application. Google Now is a personal search engine that processes voice and text requests, providing information based on personal preferences, travel history, search queries and pages visited, current GPS coordinates, personal calendar information, Email, communication in in social networks. Based on this data, Google Now not only responds to requests, but also anticipates them.

The development company defines the strategy of its search project as follows: Google Now finds the information you need before you even ask a question. This predictive approach immediately made it the “Innovation of the Year” according to the scientific magazine Popular Science, from the moment the application was released in 2012. Since then, the promise of Google Now has become even more obvious. Possibilities similar system Personalized search options seem virtually unlimited.

Technical capabilities of Google Now

Google Now is currently available on smartphones (iOS and Android), Chromebooks and Chrome browser on computers.

The search widget is located on the start screen. For the user, the results of such a search are displayed in the form "cards"(cards). There are ten of them, but their number is planned to increase. The developers have already announced seventy new cards that will appear in the near future. The user can customize cards to suit their needs and delete unnecessary ones. The cards display the following information:

  • Weather
    • in the area of home, work
  • Traffic
    • "it's time to leave" notice
    • travel route based on the user's current location and travel history
  • Public transport
    • schedule of buses, trams and metro trains when approaching a public transport stop
  • Next meeting
    • "it's time to leave" notice
    • route
    • travel time calculation
  • Flights
    • displays schedule, flight status and weather conditions
  • Sport
    • Live match results for sports teams from search history
  • Places
    • information about nearby bars, restaurants and other places of entertainment, based on the user’s location, search history and movement history
  • Translation
  • Currency
    • displayed if the user is in another country
  • Time at home
    • displayed if the user is in a different time zone

New cards coming soon include car rental, playlist selection, news, restaurant bill payment, and more.

In addition to the main cards, Google Now displays a variety of information that it considers necessary for the user: reminders of friends’ birthdays, messages about traffic congestion on regular routes. When ordering cinema or theater tickets online, Google Now will remind you of them and warn you when to leave, taking into account traffic data. If the user was looking for a product online, he will be shown where it is sold nearby, with an indication of the price. It’s easy to remove the card if it’s not needed: Google Now will understand that the user is no longer interested in it.

The application understands voice commands, now in Russian. To do this, just say “OK, Google” and request information or give a command, for example, about a reminder or about turning on an alarm. The longer you use Google Now, the smarter it will become, adapting to the user - especially if the user has an orderly, predictable life.

Google Now and privacy

One of the functions of the application is the ability to broadcast your location to certain users from Google+ so they can follow the route. Since this is done voluntarily, it does not raise any questions. Another thing is the excessive awareness of Google Now, which can be regarded as an invasion of privacy.

So, one of the userstried it in action Google Now was amazed that the search engine accurately identified his place of residence in just three days, despite the fact that no search queries were entered into Google at all and the address was not indicated anywhere. In fact, the application simply counted the time spent at a certain point. And, noticing that the person was in these coordinates for several nights in a row, Google Now “guessed” that this was his home. If someone arranges a meeting in a certain cafe in personal correspondence, you shouldn’t be surprised if a “smart” search engine tells you when a cafe of this chain will be nearby.

For Google Now, there are no secrets in a user's electronic life. The search engine freely searches for data in his mail, social networks, and movement history. Thus, another layer of information about users is now stored on the servers of Internet giants.

Google says the company's goal is to "organize all the world's information and make it accessible and useful." However, not everyone wants their personal information to be publicly available. In addition, it is sometimes scary to see how a computer reads thoughts, giving an answer to a question that has not yet been properly formulated. Whether the existence of services such as Google Now will negatively affect a person’s consciousness, his ability to think and make decisions is an open question.

But the usefulness and convenience of predictive search increasingly outweigh concerns, and Google Now is gradually growing in popularity among users.

Google Now and similar services

Over time they become obvious advantages Google Now compared to services that are considered its competitors: Siri And Cortana.

Stone Temple Consulting (STC) recently published a study that compared responses to 3,086 queries posed to these three search engines: Google Now, Siri and Cortana. Google Now turned out to be undisputed winner, V 58% cases, providing the most accurate and complete information. Moreover, this concerned both specific, factual issues and the most general ones. But the most important thing: if Cortana still demonstrates some predictive abilities, then in Siri they are absent in principle.

Users are starting to gradually get used to the fact that search service will provide them not only with the requested information, but also offer some solution. Moreover, it will save them time by anticipating the request itself.

Google declares that it is thus moving from the dissemination of information to the dissemination of knowledge. Google Now, one of the company's most advanced and promising products, is about turning facts into decisions, sometimes made for the user.

Google Now and the future of search engine promotion

Google Now is recognized as a “product of the future” precisely because of its ability to anticipate human desires and decisions.

Search not by direct queries, but by context, or more precisely, by context analysis is becoming more and more promising. The main activity of ordinary users is focused primarily on communicating on social networks and viewing basic data necessary for everyday life: routes, weather, etc. Their person prefers to receive fast, concise and accurate. Finding himself in a foreign country and finding out that, for example, the application with which he is used to ordering a taxi does not work: what will he do? Will try to find an analogue. But if will make a choice on its own, based on previous elections - of course, most people will prefer such a service.

While looking through the next push notifications about available updates, I accidentally opened the Google Now application, looked at the description on the market, and decided to dig into this wonder. For the first half an hour, I kept walking around the apartment, constantly repeating, “Okay Google, how did Rostov play?”, “Okay Google, what’s the weather forecast for tomorrow?”, “Okay Google, wake me up tomorrow at 8 am ”, etc. My Nexus 7 understood me perfectly, despite the fact that sometimes for the test I sometimes slightly distorted the trigger phrase “Okay Google”.

As you can see, our green robot is becoming smarter from update to update, and is capable of solving more and more problems; you’ll soon be able to clean the house and cook dinner :)

Google Now voice commands in Russian (androidmag video)

I would like to know from you whether you use voice search, what commands you use most often?

Google Now is becoming an increasingly important part of Android, practically the heart of the system. This is shown by both new devices on , and the upcoming support for the “Ok Google” command on any smartphone screen. The service can already tell us many useful things, and who knows what else we will learn in the future. But, as with any assistant, you need to properly build a relationship with him.

First of all, trust him. Trust is the foundation of any relationship. So feel free to open Google Now with your location and preferences. To do this, in the service settings, go to “personal data - access to my geodata” and allow Google to collect information about your location.

In addition to this, it would be a good idea to scroll down to the bottom of Google Now cards, find the magic wand icon and enter your home and work addresses, as well as interests there. Perhaps you are a fan of a particular football team or, on the advice of a neighbor, you bought a large number of shares in a company. These simple settings will help the service warn you about traffic jams, bad weather, your parking location and other information that is useful and interesting to you.

Mail and calendar

Since you are an Android user, you have a Google account and, accordingly, a GMail mailbox. And if for some reason you don’t use it, then it’s time to start. This will allow you to track a package with an order from the Internet or a reminder about plane tickets, for example, in Google Now cards.

By the way, if your significant other made the order, then it is enough for her to simply forward you a confirmation letter so that you can also track its status.

In addition, when creating another event on the calendar, you should not ignore the field with the location of the event. If you fill it out, Google Now will show you not just a reminder card, but also the time it takes to get to your scheduled appointment, just like it does for your daily commute from home to work and vice versa. Of course, this requires synchronizing your calendar with your Google account.

And again about the location

As you can already understand, the geolocation service plays a significant role in Google Now. And in addition to all of the above, it allows something else. For example, showing your loved ones where you are.

In general, a function can be treated differently. Of course, this is unthinkable for unfaithful spouses and terribly desirable for jealous people. Nevertheless, in our turbulent times, it is rather useful for your loved ones to know where you are at one time or another. And again, why do many check in endlessly, if not so that their friends know where to look for them? Google Now allows you to do the same thing, but without unnecessary gestures.

To activate, you need to go to “Google Now settings – Personal data – Show your route” and turn on the “Show where I am” option. After that, in the “Who on Google+ can see where I am” item, you can configure who will have access to this information. Yes, everything is tied to Google+, but I warned you that the function can be treated differently.

Know how to say “no”

Sometimes Google Now can guess which web link will be of interest to you, but in most cases it is not the most sought-after information.

For example, you could be looking for some product on the Internet, Google Now offered you a card with something similar, you followed the suggested link, and suddenly it turned out that you might be interested in all the content from this site. But in reality this is not the case at all.

In this case, don’t be shy to click on the three vertical dots that are located on each card and answer “no” to the question “are you interested in this topic?”

Sure, you can just swipe away the card you're not interested in, but that won't affect Google Now's future selections, and it will continue to serve cards that you keep swiping.

Bottom line

Enough to devote Google settings Now just a little time and do not ignore its small errors later, and the service will turn out to be much more useful for you. And with it gaining more and more traction in the Android ecosystem, it's definitely worth getting into.

Based on materials from Greenbot

Google Now has recently begun to resemble a formidable “beast”. What started out as a simple way to search for information on Google is now becoming a one-stop organizing center for the Android industry. After analyzing the situation, we came to the conclusion that many people do not use all the capabilities Google Now has. Below we publish 13 best advice and tricks for Google Now to make this digital assistant did all the work for your tired fingers.

Before you get started with Google Now, make sure you complete it correct setting. First of all, you need the service to learn to recognize your OK Google command from anywhere on the display by pressing the hamburger menu icon in the Google app. Next you should follow the “Settings>Voice>OK Google Recognition” scheme. Here you should move all the sliders to the right.

Once you do this, you will be prompted to teach OK Google to recognize your voice. To do this, you will need to say OK Google three times.

Next, in the settings, open the “Voice” subsection, and in it find the “Offline speech recognition” item. Check here to make sure all the languages you might need are included. This way you can use OK Google commands that don't require an internet connection while offline.

If you trust Google enough to give it access to your location data, then you'll have access to some cool features in Google Now. To allow Google to use the above data, in the Google app, open the "Settings" section, select "Location" and turn it on. After that, at the bottom of the same page, find the item “Google Location History” and also activate it.

While in the Google app, tap on the “Hamburger” menu icon and then select “Customize.” Here you can enter your home and work addresses, which can be used to set reminders and get information about your route. You can also enter your favorite sports teams, modes of transportation you use, and more to get visual and useful maps.

Explore all OK Google voice commands

OK Google in Google Now has hundreds of voice commands that you can use to accomplish a variety of things. The more of these commands you know, the more benefits you can get from Google Now.

Add more voice commands

If you downloaded the Commandr app from the Play Store, then you have the option to add a number of additional commands for Google Now. Such commands will allow you to control the flash of your smartphone, clear notifications, or take pictures with the camera in selfie mode. Plus, you can set custom voice commands for each function. Note that Commandr also includes integration for the Tasker app, turning Google Now into an automated, useful tool.

Use location-based reminders

If you need to remember to do something at a certain place, but you don't know when you'll be there, you can enlist Google to remind you if it determines that you've already arrived at the place you want. . This can be very useful for situations where you need to buy something from a store when you arrive at the store, or turn on the oven when you enter your home.

Let Google Now help you organize your trips

If you use Google Calendar, Google Now provides you with maps and notifications that let you know in advance when you need to leave one place to get to another on time. Such notifications can even inform you about traffic conditions, which will help you be a more punctual and efficient person. Make sure that your preferred transport mode is activated (Settings>Transport) and then in the settings, open the “Now maps” section, and then activate the “Route and departure time” item.

Track packages and flights using Google Now

If you receive flight notifications and tracking information postal items to your Google account, which is linked to your Google Now service, these email notifications will be used to provide maps to help you track your packages and provide regular updates on your flight status.

Ask additional questions

Google Now is very good at understanding the meaning of the questions you ask it. For example, if you asked “What is the area of the state of California?”, you could also ask a follow-up question such as “How many people live here?”, and Google will know very well that the word “here” refers specifically to the word “California.”

Launch apps with your voice

Google Now can be hands-free without any problems, so why would you want to keep opening apps with your fingers? Just say "Open (application name)" and Google will do it for you!

Establish relationships

Google can remember which contact is your mother, father, sister or brother. Just say "Oscar is my father" and Google will take care of the rest. If you have more than one Oscar in your contacts list, you will need to confirm the correct entry and then select the “Add Nickname” option. Once you do this, you will have access to new commands, such as “Call my mother” or “Send a letter to my father.”

Shazam replacement

Google Now can easily replace the Shazam app for you. All you have to do is ask “What song is that?” and you will immediately get the answer you need.

Use punctuation and emoticons

The messages you send using Google Now don't have to look like a massive jumble of confusing words. You can easily add punctuation by saying "period" or "comma", and add various emoji icons using voice commands, such as "sad face".

Set up Google Now to work in multiple languages

If you went on a trip to another country, or if you speak a foreign language, then you need to set up Google Now to recognize multiple languages. This will allow you to avoid the disappointment of the above service not being able to recognize the street names you give it, and not getting meaningless gibberish as a result. All you need to do is click on the “Hamburger” menu icon in the application, then open “Voice” in the settings and select “Languages”, then select the options you need from there.

Disable Google Now

If after everything we have indicated, you still do not see the point in using Google service Now in your daily life, then you can deactivate it: click on the hamburger icon, then in the settings select “Now cards” and move the slider to the left to disable it. Here you can also delete your preferences if you are sure that you will no longer need them.
