WordPress is an already established face, the mentality of the developer community and the logic of development. The desire to be in the key of events and to be in demand for any developer means: to understand how and what exactly was done by predecessors and move on. I haven’t written about new plugins for WordPress for a long time, and therefore I decided to slightly diversify the feed of posts with what I’m currently understanding myself - options for socializing sites. As you know, WordPress has a built-in ability to register and authorize users, and, therefore, the ability to create and configure your personal profile.

But the existing functionality of the “default” personal account in WP is quite limited, and if you “get closer to people”, then to the fullest (profile, personal, groups, adding messages from your face, ratings, etc. attributes of communities).

Therefore, it makes sense to look for a suitable third-party extension. Because This is a new topic for me, so I had to do a little digging into the candidates. I looked towards BuddyPress, studied it, but still leaned towards the domestic product. Still, it has a Russian-language support forum, and the possibility of using it to organize sales from the site really inspired me (payment systems are connected, a personal account is maintained, a cart is added). The plugin itself is expandable through modules, and therefore the unnecessary can always be removed and the necessary delivered.

Why do you need the WP-Recall plugin?

I’ll say right away that I’m just starting to get acquainted with WP-Recall, and therefore I ask you not to kick me if I misunderstood something or didn’t mention something. I’m slowly getting used to it and, perhaps, I’ll describe some aspects of working with it in more detail, but for now I’ll just post my general impression and be sure to listen to your comments.

Actually, the need for this plugin (or similar ones) arises when you want go beyond the typical framework of socialization of your project(as a rule, the “standard” is the ability to comment on posts - this is not bad, but for people raised on social networks it will still not be enough). Sometimes it makes sense to let the “core” audience of your site register and get the opportunity to participate much more actively in the life of your resource.

As I already mentioned, the standard profile features in WordPress are, to put it mildly, less than ideal. Users wanted to be given a functional and easily customizable profile (photos, themes, required fields, etc.), from where they could communicate with other site users via private messages, publish their own posts (without going to the WordPress admin area, which is quite important) and even organize your own user communities or participate in existing ones. Well, in the case of WP-Recall, you can even try yourself as the owner of an online store (selling goods or services) or attach an affiliate program to your site.

The plugin is not new (version 15 is already in progress); it appeared about four years ago. Over time, it has gained a lot of functionality and, what is noteworthy, the repository of addons for it (various modules that add this or that functionality) is also growing. True, despite the fact that the plugin itself is free, many addons for it are paid (or are available only if you pay for VIP access, i.e. a monthly subscription fee). This is a little sad, but this is a fairly common phenomenon (about the same thing happened with Virtuemart for Joomla).

Public Wp-Recall ( Publication) - if you have the intention of making visitors active participants in the project, then you cannot do without this add-on. It allows the user to add their publications to your blog from the front of the site (from a special page or from their personal account), which will fall into the categories you have assigned for this matter. Users will have everything they need at their disposal - a visual editor, the ability to add images, etc., etc., etc.

If you don’t need something, then this module can be deactivated or deleted, but you need to take into account that many basic modules may be needed for the correct operation of additional modules that you want to install from the “Repository” (such a tab can also be found in the WP admin panel in the WP-Recall section).

The “Documentation” tab can be quite useful, where you will find links to manuals on the most frequently asked questions when working with plugins. For example, how to add a personal account to your website after installing the plugin (the easiest way, of course, is to create a new page with a short code added to it, but there is also Alternative option). There are even instructions for creating your own extensions to this plugin if the need arises or you want to sell it (or give it away for free) in the repository.

I don’t yet have a ready-made example that could demonstrate the operation of the modules and the plugin itself. However, the developer’s site uses this plugin (including for sales), so you can register on it and see how the user would feel if you had similar tools and functionality on your site. Of course, not all the functionality is demonstrated there (otherwise there would be an obvious overkill), but it’s quite possible to get an impression.

Interim summary

At this stage of getting to know the plugin, I have no negative thoughts yet. Perhaps something will come out when diving deeper. Actually, I hope for your opinion if you already have experience with WP-Recall and similar solutions for WordPress (the comparison is especially interesting). By the way, this plugin adapts to the screens of mobile gadgets, which is great, because now not only Google, but also Yandex also requires adaptability from sites.

From what determined my current choice:
