By pressing the button " Partition Manager"(1) aboutThe main window of the program opens. Data Recovery(2) - data recovery. "Backup & Restore"(3) - backup/restore (only works in Pro version).

By clicking on a section (it doesn't matter - in the list above, in the picture below), you can see a menu (both pop-up and on the left panel) with all the required actions:

Resize / Move Section— resize the partition and/or move its physical position on the disk. By the way, the official website says that the EaseUS Partition Master Home version (free) does not support changing partitions. It's not - everything works great.

Copy Section- copy the partition to another disk with all the information on it.

Merging Sections- merging two or more sections. It is convenient if you need to save information on the hard drive, but reduce the number of partitions.

Convert to Boolean- conversion to a logical (extended) / primary (primary) partition.

Change Label- change the label of the disk.

Change letter- change the drive letter.

Defragment- start standard Windows programs to defragment the disk.

Set active— mark the selected section as active.

Check Section- check the disk for errors using again standard program Windows.

Hide section- make sure that the section is not visible in the "Computer" window.

Delete section- deleting a section.

Format Partition- section formatting.

Wipe section— clearing the contents of the section. All folders and files will be deleted, the partition will remain. Information deleted in this way cannot be recovered.

Section Explorer- view the contents of the section.

View properties- see how much space is occupied on the partition, what file system it has and find out other technical information.

The list of actions changes depending on where you click. In the screenshot above, I clicked on the non-system partition. By clicking on the system partition (where Windows is launched from), there will be no deletion, hiding, cleaning items.

If you click on the physical disk icon, the list of actions will be completely different:

Copy disc- the contents of the entire disk are copied: partitions, information in them. To do this, you need a second disk of the same or larger volume.

Update disk- the function is primarily needed to transfer Windows to a new larger hard drive. The partition is copied and enlarged in proportion to the size of the new one. hard drive.

Delete all partitions- delete all sections.

Wipe disk- the same as the previous paragraph, only with special deletion algorithms, making it impossible to recover information.

Restore MBR- re-creation MBR (Master boot record(English master boot record, MBR ) - code and data required for subsequent download operating system and located in the first physical sectors (most often in the very first) hard drive or other storage device).

Surface test- checking the surface of the disk (physical). Allows you to detect bad sectors (the so-called "bads", "bad blocks").

View properties— display information about the disk.

After you make the necessary manipulations, you need to save the changes by clicking the "Apply" button.

Only then will partitioning begin. This process can take some time - from a couple of minutes to several hours.

Depending on whether the system partition is affected or not, operations are carried out either immediately in the window, or you will need to restart the computer and start changing the partition in Native mode:

Changing a non-system partition occurs immediately in the program window

Changing the system partition occurs after restarting the computer in a special mode

The program has a lot of functions, it's impossible to list them all. If you speak English, I recommend reading with EaseUS Partition Master help . If you don't own it, you can use Google translator . The translation is quite understandable.

Pros of EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition:

Cons of EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition:

  • There are perhaps even too many possibilities - this can confuse beginners.

  • A serious failure during the operation will lead to serious consequences.

  • For example, if you turn off the computer while changing the partition, the data from the partition will disappear. However, this is a minus of absolutely all programs for changing partitions.
  • E note69

For normal installation and Windows work 7 / 8.1 / 10, 20-25 GB of hard disk space is enough, but in practice, you have to allocate much more for the system partition, at least 50-60 GB, since in addition to the system itself, users also install packages of different applications. But over time, this volume may not be enough.

In such cases, you can remove some of the programs, and then reinstall them, but already on drive D, but this is far from the best option. It is much easier to increase the size of the system partition by borrowing some disk space from other partitions. There are several ways to do this, but the fastest and most reliable is software. To expand the system partition, it is not at all necessary to use expensive applications like, their free counterparts, for example, EaseUS Partition Master Free, will do.

This program is powerful, convenient and simple. In addition to the Free edition, there is also a commercial version, but in this case we do not need it. The application can work with disks up to 4 TB, supports converting primary partitions to logical ones and vice versa, creating copies of partitions to transfer data to another computer without reinstalling Windows, viewing, splitting and resizing partitions of any type.

Additional features programs include hiding and showing disks, completely deleting files, as well as checking the disk surface for bad sectors. There is no Russian language in EaseUS Partition Master Free, but this is not a problem. The interface of the application is simple, and most of the operations are performed using intuitive graphical controls. To get to the disk wizard window, after installing and launching the program, click the "Launch Application" button located in the center.

In the larger right pane of the window, you will see a list of your partitions. It may also include a Windows reserved area without a letter (marked with an asterisk) and some unallocated space. So, in order to enlarge partition C, we need to cut off part of partition D, and then "solder" it to partition C. Right-click on partition D and select the very first option "Resize / Move Partition" in the menu that appears.

In the window that opens, drag the slider so that the resulting unallocated space borders on the system partition. Click OK. The same can be done without calling the wizard's additional window by dragging the slider on the graphical disk representation panel located at the bottom of the main window. We do the same procedure for partition C, only this time we drag the slider to the area of unallocated space, thereby increasing the volume of disk C. Again, click OK, and then apply the new settings by clicking the "Apply" button.

As soon as you do this, a window will pop up with a notification about the start of the operation. To prevent the program from asking unnecessary questions, check the box "Shut down the computer after changes are applied". Press YES and confirm the start of the procedure. The computer will restart, and you will see a black window with the progress of the operations, after which the desktop will load. Wait for the procedure to complete and do not turn off the computer, even if it seems to you that it takes too long. Otherwise, you risk corrupting the file system, causing Windows to fail to boot.

You can download the program for free on the developer's website www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm. When installing, be careful, the free version of the application can install third-party software into the system.

Have a great day!

To work with disks and partitions in Windows, there is a powerful built-in utility diskpart , however, being a console and not having a graphical shell, it cannot differ in convenience in any way. If it suits anyone, it’s experienced users and system administrators, while ordinary users should use more intuitive and understandable tools to work with disks. For example, a program just designed for complex work with hard disk partitions.

Features of EaseUS Partition Master

Featuring an intuitive graphical interface, this program has a wide arsenal of disk management tools. With it, you can create, merge, delete and format partitions, change their size, letter and label, cluster size used, convert basic disks to dynamic, make partitions invisible or active. it supports transferring and cloning partitions, checking them for logical file system errors, viewing their properties and contents.

There are also a number of specific functions in the program, such as: partition alignment to improve disk performance, recovery of a damaged record MBR , transferring the operating system with all installed and configured programs to a new one SSD or HDD -disk, optimization and cleaning of partitions, including non-recoverable data, reconstruction of lost partitions, search for bad sectors on physical disks, preview of changes before the final application of actions.

can work not only with interface hard drives IDE, SATA and SCSI, but also with removable media connected via USB and firewire . Supported file systems FAT16 , FAT32 , NTFS and EXT, disk support is declared GPT and arrays RAID. Among other functions of the application, one can note the installation of a password for launch, as well as the creation of bootable media based on WinPE , which allows you to work with partitions and access the file system, even if Windows has stopped loading.

Installation and interface

Installation procedure practically no different from installing similar programs, as for the graphical interface, it also has much in common with other software tools for working with partitions, except that in Partition Master no Russian.

In the left part of the working window there is a menu of operations, the contents of which may vary depending on the type of the selected partition, in the lower part there is a panel with a graphical representation of the physical disk (s), at the top you can see a menu of additional operations. You can also perform certain actions with disks and partitions from the context menu called by right-clicking on the selected object.

Most of the operations performed with disks and partitions are performed using the corresponding step-by-step wizard that prompts and warns the user about the possible consequences.

For example, if you try to make a non-system partition active, the program will warn you about the inadmissibility of such an action. The step-by-step wizard is used when creating, splitting and merging partitions, finding a lost partition in an area with unallocated space, cloning and formatting.

Other, less risky operations, such as, for example, converting a primary partition into a logical one, do not require the participation of a wizard, but in any case, all actions are not applied immediately by the program, but require user confirmation.

Additional functions

Cleaning and optimization functions in represented by three separate modules.

Junk File Cleanup is responsible for finding and deleting temporary system files, browsers and some third-party and system applications.

Large File Cleanup allows you to analyze the contents of partitions, finding files on them that can be deleted in order to obtain additional disk space.

Disk optimization is an alternative defragmenter. It performs the same tasks as the standard disk defragmentation utility in Windows.

Create a bootable rescue disk in almost no different from a similar procedure in other similar programs, except that the component WinPE downloaded directly from the site Microsoft.

The finished file can be written to a flash drive, CD-disk or saved as ISO -image. If you boot from such media, you can perform the same operations on disks and partitions as from under a running Windows.

Features of program editions

You can download this convenient partition manager from the official website of the developer:

The program is distributed in four editions: Free, Pro, server and Unlimited. Editorial Free free for home use, but it has a number of limitations. In particular, the functions of changing the size of a dynamic volume, converting a system disk MBR in GPT , moving the OS to SSD and HDD ,

When you use one operating system for a long time without reinstalling, you may want or even need to increase or decrease the size of a partition, split HDD into sections, or vice versa, take and combine sections into one.

One of the reasons why operations with partitions may be needed is the lack of space on the current partition. I myself once had such a situation when on the partition where Windows was installed suddenly there was a catastrophic lack of space. I remember once I installed Windows and didn’t quite think about how much space I need to allocate to the partition for Windows and for my various documents, videos, photos, and so on. As a result, I allocated some space and a month later I realized that it was almost over and there was nothing to free it, in principle :) Then for the first time I thought about special programs, which can help distribute free space between partitions and, for example, partition a hard disk into sections directly from the Windows operating system.

Another reason why you may need a program to work with partitions is that you want to install 2 operating systems in parallel with the ability to boot one or the other of your choice. In this case, it is recommended to install the second system on a different logical disk (partition), because it is more reliable this way. And then, if you had one section, you need to make a second one, and standard means Unfortunately, Windows will not be able to do this ... In this case, programs specially designed for this purpose will come to the rescue.

There are quite a few programs that allow you to work with Windows partitions. Basically, most of the functionality of such programs, one way or another, is paid. Even if there is a free version, it will 99.9% have limited functionality. So, do you want more? Pay and enjoy :)

For all the time I used several programs to work with partitions, and the last one I stopped at was Easeus Partition Master. This program has several modifications, and one of them is free - with the postscript Free. Once I tried it, I realized that, in principle, it has all the most basic things, and if something is missing, then you can try to find this functionality in similar programs.

Today I will talk about how to perform basic operations on Windows partitions using this program.

I also note that such programs, as a rule, have standard versions that work with partitions from under Windows and bootable versions that work in a special environment even before the OS is loaded (like LiveCD disks).

EaseUS Partition Master in its free version can only work from Windows, and the function to create boot disk available only in its paid versions. It is safer, of course, to work with partitions using the boot version of programs. But using this program repeatedly, I did not encounter problems.

A free download version has a similar program - MiniTool Partition Wizard. And in the next article, I will just tell you how to work with partitions using it. After all, someone may come in handy:

And now let's start working with the EaseUS Partition Master program.

Attention!
Any operations with partitions are always associated with a certain risk of losing data or bringing the system to an inoperable state. These risks are always and everywhere and just do not forget about them. If you are going to perform operations on hard disk partitions, it is strongly recommended to back up data or all partitions at once, for example, through the Acronis True Image program. Using this program, I have never encountered any problems, but there are all sorts of situations. Therefore, keep this in mind!

Download and Install EaseUS Partition Master

You can download the program freely from the official website of the developer at the link:

Easeus.com

The page that opens will display a table that compares all versions of the program. As you can see, the free one has a minimum number of functions, but the most important thing for us is that it can resize partitions (Resize partition) at medium speed (since “Normal speed” is indicated) and merge partitions together (Merge partitions). Of course, the free version of the program has other features as well! The version of the program with the maximum set of functions, as we see, today costs 127 with small bucks. Well, this version is needed more by system administrators than ordinary users, since it differs from the $32 version only by the ability to work on Windows server operating systems.

So, to download the program, click on the "Free Download" button at the bottom of the Partition Master Free column:

Run the downloaded program installer:

Unfortunately, the program does not support the Russian language, which, of course, will be a significant disadvantage for many. But in this article, after all, I explain everything :) Leave English and click "OK":

Again, we are invited to evaluate the merits of one of paid versions EaseUS Partition Master compared to the one you install is free. There is even a buy button (Try Pro Edition). We continue by clicking on "Next":

We accept the terms of the license agreement with the "Accept" button:

The next window shows the default installation path at the top. By clicking on the “Browse” button, you can change the installation folder if you wish. Below there are 3 enabled checkboxes. The first 2 create icons for launching the program on the desktop and taskbar, and the last invites us to participate in the quality improvement program. The last checkbox can be removed. We continue the configuration before installation by clicking "Next":

In the next window, we are prompted to install the EaseUS Todo Backup Free data recovery program from the same developer. Since the recovery program is not of interest to us now (I already talked about one of these programs in the article “ Recovering data from a computer using R.Saver!”), uncheck the box at the top of the window and click “Next” so as not to install unnecessary software on the computer :

In the next window, if you just click "Next", then install another proposed extra program SHAREit, designed to transfer videos, photos and other information from mobile devices. To not install the program, select "Custom installation" and uncheck:

In the next window, we are again offered to install the program and this time to optimize the operating system, i.e. cleaning it from excess debris to speed up work. The program is called "AVG PC TuneUP" and I already talked about it in a separate article:

To prevent the program from being installed on your computer, check the box "I do not accept". We continue by clicking on the "Next" button:

Be careful when installing free programs, otherwise you can install a whole bunch of additional programs you don't need :)

OK it's all over Now! A checked checkbox means that the program will start immediately after the installation is completed. Click "Finish":

This completes the installation.

Working with Windows Partitions with EaseUS Partition Master!

We launch the program (if it does not start itself after installation), and in the window that opens, click "Launch Application", i.e. once again confirm the launch of the program:

The main program window will appear in front of you, where all the main sections on the computer will be displayed in the middle:

Keep in mind that the program does not work with hidden partitions!

When working with the program, the following messages may sometimes appear:

In this case, check the "Don't show this again" checkbox in one of these messages and the messages will stop appearing.

The operations available on partitions are listed in the small "Operations" window to the left of the program. You can also get a list of operations by right-clicking on the section:

The most basic partition operations are located as buttons on the top toolbar:

And another way to access partition operations is to open the "Partitions" menu at the very top:

Now let's look at some operations on partitions that may come in handy.

Resizing a partition

With the help of the program, you can quickly change the partition size, i.e. increase it at the expense of the free space of the neighboring partition (if any) or reduce it, after which there will be free space for creating a new partition in the future.

The operation of changing a partition in the direction of reduction is comparable to the operation of dividing one partition into 2. I.e. we get two in one!

To resize a partition, select it and in the "Operations" window, click on the "Resize/Move Partition" button:

In the next window, you need to configure the new partition size:

The size is easily adjusted with the sliders to the left and right of the section ends. By moving the slider, you can increase or decrease the size. In my case, only 1 partition with a volume of 30 GB was created, which occupies the entire disk and, therefore, I cannot change the size upwards. You may be wondering: “Why do you have a hard drive with a capacity of only 30 GB?!”. The fact is that I show you how the program works on a virtual machine in order not to interfere with the sections of the real operating system.

You can read about what a virtual machine is in the article:

If you shrink a partition, another partition will be created to take up the freed space. The exact size can be adjusted manually in the "Partition Size" line in the center of the window.

Ullocated Space Before and Afrer is the amount of free space formed before and after the partition.

Below you will see the structure of your local disk after you reduce/increase its size.

If you want to optimize a partition for an SSD drive (an analogue of an HDD that works many times faster), then check the "Optimize for SSD" box at the very bottom.

After the size is set, click "OK" at the bottom.

Now in the main window of the program you will already see 2 sections - the one for which you have changed the size and the section called "Unallocated", which was formed from free space and is an unallocated area that cannot be used:

But even though the new structure is already displayed in the program window, in fact, you still have the same partition with the same size. And all because the operations must be applied and only then they will be executed. And what you see in the window is only a preliminary structure, which will be real when you apply the planned partition change operation.

All preliminary operations are lined up on the left in the bottom window "Pending Operations".

And in order to apply the operation, you need to click the "Apply" button on the toolbar:

Also, you will have available the "Undo" button - canceling the planned operation with partitions, and "Refresh" - updating the partition structure in the EaseUS Partition Master program window.

By clicking on the button for applying operations, a small window will appear where you need to confirm your intention with the “Yes” button. Pay attention to the checkbox in this window. If you check the box, the computer will be turned off after the planned partition operations are completed!

If you change the size of a partition that is already in use (for example, the size of the system drive "C"), then in the next window there will be a warning that a computer restart is required to complete the operations. Therefore, you need to save all the work on the computer, if you did something, and only then click "Yes":

The computer will restart and the operations of the EaseUS Partition Master program will begin in a black window:

You don't need to click anything here, just wait until the end!

Waiting for Windows boot, we go into the program again and see that the window of previously prepared operations is empty, which means the operation (or several) performed on the sections:

You can immediately open Windows Explorer and check what size your partition you were working with now has. You need to right-click on it and select "Properties":

For example, instead of 30 GB, my partition now has a volume of 24.5 GB, that is, I reduced it by about 5 GB.

Creating a partition in an unallocated free area (Unallocated)

If you reduced the size of the partition, then you will have the so-called unallocated area (Unallocated), which is displayed in EaseUS Partition Master as a separate partition without a letter:

You can create an additional partition in this area. To do this, select the area and click on the "Create partition" button:

The partition creation window will appear:

In the "Partition label" field, specify the name of the partition, which will be visible in the operating system.

In the "Create as" field, you need to select the type of partition "Primary" or "Logical". The system can boot from the primary partition (Primary) and there can be only 4 such partitions in the system. If you do not have 4 partitions, then it is better to choose the Primary type.

The "Drive Letter" field specifies the letter of the partition to be created. Choose any of the available ones from the list.

In the "File System" field, leave "NTFS" as this is the most modern file system.

"Cluster Size" is best left at its default value - "Default".

If you are creating a partition on an "SSD" drive, then enable the "Optimize for SSD" option. I talked about the differences between HDD and SSD, as well as in general about all computer components, in the article:

At the bottom, under the heading "Decide size and position", you can change the size of the created partition, since by default it will be created on all unallocated space.

When everything is set up, click "OK".

Now the operation needs to be applied by clicking the "Apply" button on the toolbar:

Confirm the operation with the "Yes" button:

The process of creating a partition will begin, which will be visible in a separate window:

After the process is complete, you will receive a notification in a separate window where you will need to click "OK" to continue:

This operation, as already understood, is performed without rebooting, since the system partition is not affected.

After the operation is completed, you can open Windows Explorer (Computer section) and see two sections already, one of which will have the name you specified:

Merging Sections

Another useful operation on partitions is merging partitions. Those. you can take and merge into one 2 previously created sections. Let's see how to do it...
Select the partition that we want to merge with some other and click on the "Merge partition" button:

In the window that opens, check the box that you want to merge with the selected one:

Below, in the "Merge selected partition to" field, select the drive letter that will belong to the merged partition.

There are no more settings and you can click the "OK" button.

In the next window, we confirm the operation and then another window will be displayed with a warning that a reboot is required. We agree by clicking "Yes":

After the reboot, you can open the explorer and make sure that instead of 2 sections you now have one!

These are the basic operations that any ordinary user may need, the EaseUS Partition Master program allows you to perform with partitions. All other simple operations on partitions can be performed using standard Windows tools. There is also a Disk Management utility (available through Computer Management), but it does not allow you to resize partitions, move them, merge them, and perform any other operations, except for creating new partitions from an unallocated area and deleting existing partitions.

And EaseUS Partition Master has the ability to do everything that was listed above and no difficulties arise.

That's all for today. See you in the next articles!

If you need to manage hard disk partitions, in particular, redistribution, copying or deleting, then you need to get a powerful, but at the same time convenient software to carry out the assigned tasks. EaseUS Partition Master Free is just such a program.

EaseUS Partition Master Free is a popular program for managing partitions of the vast majority of drives (hard drives and various removable media).

Key features of the EaseUS Partition Master Free program:

  • Implementation of work with disks, starting from 2 GB and ending with 4 TB;
  • Obtaining comprehensive information about your disks, partitions and file systems;
  • Convert partitions to logical and vice versa;
  • Partition formatting;
  • Deleting sections;
  • Merging sections;
  • Change drive letter;
  • Redistribution of allocated space for partitions without the risk of losing information;
  • Moving the operating system to an SSD or HDD;
  • Recovery of deleted partitions;
  • Partition optimization for SSD;
  • Cleaning and optimizing disks to increase computer performance;
  • Support for various file systems;
  • Complete deletion of information from partitions without the risk of information recovery.

How to use the EaseUS Partition Master Free utility?

You probably already noticed that the scope of the EaseUS Partition Master Free utility is very extensive, but at the same time it is extremely convenient to use it.

For example, you need to resize a partition. In order to carry out this task, select the section with a single mouse click, and then in the left area of the program window, click on the button "Resize/Move Partition" .

In the window that appears, enter a numerical value (in megabytes) for the partition, or move the bar in the upper area of the window so that you can get the required partition size.

Now a few words about disk optimization. Over time, disks begin to accumulate information, which is the main reason for the decrease in computer performance. To prevent clogged drives, EaseUS Partition Master Free has a built-in drive cleaning and optimization tool.

To use this tool, you need to click on the button in the upper area of the program window. "Cleanup and Optimization" .

A new window will appear on your screen with three options for you to choose from: clean up junk, delete large files, and optimize disk.

In the first case, you will need to analyze the state of the disk, as a result of which the program will detect temporary files, cache and other garbage that is not necessary, but at the same time greatly reduces computer performance. As a result of such cleaning, up to several gigabytes can be freed on your computer.

After launching the second point of system cleaning (deleting large files), the program will require you to select a disk on which the analysis for large files will be carried out. As a result, the program will display a list of the largest files in descending order, as a result of which you can decide which files to get rid of in order to free up space on your computer.

And finally, the third point, which allows you to optimize the disk. First, the program will analyze the disk you specified, after which the defragmentation stage will begin.

Advantages of EaseUS Partition Master Free:

1. Extensive work with hard disk partitions;

2. A simple interface that, despite the volume of functions, remains intuitive;

3. The program is distributed free of charge, but with some restrictions.

Disadvantages of EaseUS Partition Master Free:

1. Lack of support for the Russian language (but with a special desire, you can find crackers for this program).

EaseUS Partition Master Free is not only an effective partition management tool, but also a great assistant in maintaining computer performance with its built-in disk cleanup and optimization tool. This version of the program is distributed absolutely free of charge, so you have the opportunity to try it out yourself.
