Comparison of Sony PS4 and Microsoft XBox One game consoles. Comparison of PS4 and Xbox One in all respects Virtual reality technology

Grand Theft Auto 5 became available on eighth-generation consoles - PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - a year after the original release on older consoles. How does the famous game about car chaos look on new generation devices? Journalists from the Western website Digital Foundry, which specializes in analyzing graphics and performance in games, also asked this question and compared the two versions. In this article you will find out what conclusions they came to and which version is preferable from a technical point of view.

American Beauty

There is no doubt that with the transition to the power of eighth-generation consoles, GTA V has gained in beauty. The versions for both consoles produce 1080p resolution, and the innovation of the improved release is a first-person camera mode, so you can see in detail the brave new world of Los Santos. There is something to look at - the textures have been redrawn in high resolution, and in addition, the graphics engine has been replenished with new types of effects.

However, it's not just about high resolution. 1080p picture supports anti-aliasing effect High Quality. It makes distant details on the horizon easier to spot, and road trips through the cities and wilderness of Rockstar's version of Los Angeles no longer result in uneven loading of textures and objects. The main necessary resource for the improved versions - a large amount of memory - is available in abundance on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and objects are now loaded evenly as the world is explored.

Twilight ray effect in action

The powerful graphics processors of both consoles made it possible to include more picture effects in the game. The depth of field has changed, twilight rays and volumetric reflections have appeared. After playing on new consoles, it's hard to go back to the previous generation versions. By purchasing this version, owners of devices from both companies - Sony and Microsoft - will benefit.

New graphic effects

The video shows a head-to-head comparison of the two versions in slow motion to better see the details.

In short, both versions are graphically identical, with a couple of exceptions. The most noticeable difference is the less dense vegetation in the Xbox One version compared to the PlayStation 4. Of course, on the Microsoft console, the landscape of GTA 5 does not look like a desert at all, but a comparison with the version on the Sony console reveals less density of trees and grass. However, this does not affect the enjoyment of the game in the Xbox One version. Players are unlikely to pay attention to such a minor detail that does not matter to the in-game mechanics.

The texture quality is identical on both devices. Rockstar developers have improved the resolution of all objects and surfaces - from the fabric of Michael's winter jacket to the gravel covering in his garden. Some objects were given a three-dimensional shape by enabling the Parallax occlusion mapping effect. Individual branches and the shape of the trunk are now highlighted on trees, and three-dimensional relief is now visible on the brick walls of the game world. Another change is the surround lighting system. Light now plays with tones on character models in the game, and shadows have become more complex. Sunsets in Los Santos have become especially beautiful, thanks to the twilight rays breaking through the buildings. When turning on the car's headlights at dusk, an anisotropic glare effect has been added.

Thanks to the Parallax Occlusion Mapping effect, the stones in Michael's garden have become more voluminous

All these visual goodies are best appreciated in first-person mode, an exclusive feature of the enhanced version of GTA 5. In this perspective, you will appreciate the depth and richness of detail. Once behind the wheel, you will be surprised to discover that the interiors of the cars in the game are also detailed to the smallest detail. In a new perspective, you can play the game from beginning to end - a completely new experience of traveling through Los Santos.

Performance test

Both consoles render the game at 30 frames per second in V-sync mode. The introductory game hour produces the promised amount, but the fps parameter sags in later missions. On PS4, for example, frames per second can drop to 24 during races through the crowded main streets of Los Santos, which does not happen in the Xbox One version. The amount of traffic on the roads is identical in both versions, so the advantage here is on the side of the Microsoft console. However, the Xbox One version sags in other moments - during explosions and water effects.

Verdict

Technically, GTA 5 was created with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles in mind, but the improved version brings enough changes to return to the world of Los Santos. The versions for both devices run at 1080p resolution, have sharper textures and greater draw distance. The only visual drawback of the Xbox One version is less dense vegetation, but it is quite insignificant. Neither console delivers 30 frames per second throughout the entire game, but overall the remastered version's performance is noticeably better than the previous-gen release. During intense firefights, the frame rate drops on the Xbox One, and on the PlayStation 4 during heavy traffic.

However, players are unlikely to notice the small flaws in the updated version. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages - updated graphics and a first-person perspective will show you the world of Los Santos from a new perspective.

You can buy GTA 5 for and in the PiterPlay store.

PS4 and Xbox One have firmly established themselves in the game console market, leaving all their competitors far behind.

While Nintendo is re-releasing old consoles from the 90s and busily buying ads for the Switch from bloggers, their competitors Sony and Microsoft are trying to to full 4K gaming, “stuffing” consoles with powerful hardware.

It is about the technical aspects of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One that we will talk in this article.

Console models

Ever since the PlayStation One, manufacturers have been releasing several modifications of one console, which is still observed now: PS4 Fat, Slim, Pro and Xbox One Fat, S, X.

Originally released Fat versions of consoles. Later they were almost completely replaced by thin versions Slim and S. After them, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X were presented - the most powerful consoles, existing at the moment.

When comparing PS4 and Xbox One, I want to pay more attention the very first versions, since they are the most common among users, but we won’t forget about the latter either.

Design

For some users, it is important to receive from the device not only its functionality, but also aesthetic pleasure, so we will begin to find out which console is better: PS4 or Xbox One from appearance.

PS4 vs Xbox One

There have been jokes on the Internet for a long time regarding the design and weight of the Xbox One. Many note with irony that the designers from Microsoft clearly did not overwork themselves and drew inspiration from looking at an old VHS tape recorder. The result is a huge, noisy and heavy box that does not fit into the image of a modern console. The only plus is the console itself doesn't heat up and, as practice has shown, it does not break.

PlayStation 4 Fat looks fresh and even a little futuristic. The console is visually divided into two parts - glossy and matte. There is an indicator light on the dividing strip, which gives the console even more originality. Due to the fact that air comes out from the end of the case, the attachment heats up more often, but works a little quieter than its competitor.

Xbox One Slim (S) and PS4 Slim

Thanks to the influx of “fresh blood” in the person of designer Andrew Kim, Microsoft was able to surprise users new Xbox One S. The case, made in white and black, looks neat and stylish. Moreover, Kim managed to figure out how to hide the bulky power supply inside the console, and at the same time make it 40% less than previous version.

PlayStation 4 repair

Sony, releasing the PS4 Slim, decided to get rid of the glossy surface, which, according to the community, is the right decision, since it scratched quickly. Thus, the “thin” version became completely matte, and the smoothed corners gave the appearance even more sophistication. As befits a Slim modification, the console has become smaller and lighter.

Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro

If you don't look at the details, the Xbox One X is practically no different from the Xbox One S.

The main difference is the color, The X modification turned black. And that's probably all.

If the PS4 Slim was jokingly nicknamed a sandwich by the people, since it consisted of two “halves,” then the PS4 Pro is a hamburger. In fact, we have before us the same Slim, only it consists of three parts. After looking at the concept art, users decided that the console would become huge, but in reality this did not happen. Yes, console larger and heavier even than the Fat version, but this is not at all critical considering what is inside.

Specifications

Now let's move on to the hardware and find out which is better: PS4 or Xbox One, - under conditions of direct comparison.

PS4 Slim and Xbox One S have become smaller and lighter, but hardware and performance remained at the same level, except HDR technology support(on PS4 it is only present when watching videos, and on Xbox One it is also present in games).

Fat versions

Let's start with the “heart of the console” - the processor. Both consoles work based on 8-core AMD Jaguar, built on x86-64 architecture, and operating at a frequency of 1.75 GHz.

Computing processes are provided by the so-called "system on a chip". This means that the set-top boxes are equipped with one module that combines the central and graphic processors, controller random access memory and video codec.

This is where the similarities between the consoles in terms of hardware end. If you take a quick look at some parameters of PS4 or Xbox One: the number of teraflops (1.84 to 1.31, respectively), the number of shaders on the video chip (1152 to 768), the number of rendering units (“ROPs”) on video cards (32 to 16) and the main computing units (18 to 12), it can be understood that PS4 is slightly better than its competitor.

In addition, the PlayStation 4 video chip works using an exclusive shader system– PlayStation Shader Language, which is superior not only to OpenGL4, but also to the more famous DirectX11.

The PS4 GPU has another advantage - tessellation support, which displays the textures of certain objects in more detail.

The Xbox One has an ace up its sleeve - the GPU clock speed is 853 MHz, which is 53 MHz more than the PS4. It means that xbox graphics professor is faster, which practically equalizes the performance of both consoles.

Another important nuance - RAM. Engineers from Sony decided to equip the console with the new DDR5 memory standard (176 GB/s), while Microsoft settled on the less fast and almost outdated GDDR3 (86 GB/s).

Each console has 8 GB of RAM.

The lack of RAM in Xbox One is being made up for additional ESRAM module volume 32 MB.

X and Pro versions

The Xbox One X processor runs at 2.3 GHz, while the PS4 Pro runs at 2.13 GHz. Both processors are 8-core.

Xbox One X has peak performance 6 teraflops, 326 GB/s memory bandwidth and 12 GB GDDR5 RAM.

PS4 Pro has "under the hood" 4.12 teraflops, 218 GB/s memory bandwidth and 8 GB GDDR5 RAM.

According to Microsoft itself, Xbox One X is 40% more powerful any existing set-top box.

Controllers

We have already written about PS4 and Xbox One gamepads several times, so we’ll talk quickly main differences, without delving into small details.

The controllers from both platforms are different. Moreover, they are different not only externally, but also functionally.

At the heart of PS4's DualShock 4 is Touchpad, which helps simplify navigation in the browser and also complements the gameplay. The same functions are performed by the built-in sensor for determining position in space. That is, for example, when typing in a chat, you can move the gamepad and thus select the letter you need.

There is also a small speaker that makes the gameplay atmospheric, transmitting some of the sounds, for example, telephone conversations in GTA V.

Inside the DualShock 4 is built-in battery, which charges when the gamepad is connected to the console with a Micro USB cable. With active use, the battery is discharged in approximately 6-8 hours.

With the Xbox One you get the Microsoft Controller, which runs on batteries. 2 pieces last for several weeks active use. In addition, for a certain amount of money you can buy an external battery, which has approximately similar characteristics to the DualShock battery.

Initially, the Microsoft gamepad did not have 3.5mm headphone jack, like in DualShock, but with the release of Xbox One S this was fixed, plus Bluetooth appeared for connecting to a PC.

Summarize

As you already understood, although both consoles were created to solve approximately the same problems, they are still different. Each version satisfies the needs of a specific consumer: someone in terms of price and quality, for example, PS4 or Xbox One S, and for some in terms of performance, availability of 4K in games, as in PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

If you still don't know what to buy, read one of our previous articles where we talk about choosing a gaming platform from the point of view of an ordinary user.

Xbox One and PS 4 have already passed a year and a half of their life. After this time, one can already judge the real pros and cons of both consoles, although this hardly simplifies the agony of choice when it comes to buying one or another console.

Microsoft is committed to delivering monthly updates for Xbox One. Every 30 days, owners receive several new features for their console, making Xbox One the best choice for an all-around entertainment console.

These updates bring many media-focused entertainment components, including expanded TV integration, DLNA support, and the ability to expand the Xbox's internal storage with an external hard drive.

Sony took a different route; they release their software updates sporadically, which makes them larger in volume and much more anticipated.

The latest 2.0 update brought SharePlay features, dynamic backgrounds, and YouTube support, as well as many minor updates, mostly focused on gaming.

But that doesn't mean Microsoft isn't focusing on the gaming side of its console. Quite the opposite. At the Windows 10 event, the company announced the ability to stream games from Xbox One to a computer or tablet, which should allow you to play console games on Windows 10-enabled devices.

So this is not an easy decision. Both consoles have their pros, cons, and quirks, some of which seem designed to make the choice difficult.

To help you decide which console is best for you, we've compared every aspect of the specs so you can make an informed decision between Xbox One and PS4.

Price

After a year and a half on the market, both consoles reached their most justified prices. At launch, the Xbox One cost a whopping $120 more than the PlayStation 4. This was explained by the fact that you were forced to buy the Kinect sensor, which was included in the basic package.

However, already in May, Microsoft released a version without Kinect, at a price almost identical to the PS 4 price - $525. This helped increase the number of consoles sold by making the console more affordable for those who couldn't afford to spend $600 on a new Xbox One.

Now, on average, an Xbox, even complete with a game, is cheaper than a PS 4. Below we give approximate prices for retail sales for the winter of 2015; now you can probably find other offers, but they are unlikely to be much different:

Xbox One:
Xbox One - $450
Xbox One bundled with Assassin's Creed Unity and AC 4: Black Flag - $495
Xbox One with Kinect - $570
Xbox One game bundle - $495

PS 4:
PS 4 - $495
PS 4 bundle with game - $525

Design
Xbox One is 10% larger than the Xbox 360. The console is made in the “big black box” style and weighs 3.18 kg.
PS 4 is a thinner design with sloping edges. The weight of the console is 2.8 kg.

Different approaches were used to develop the design of Xbox One and PS 4.

Microsoft's Xbox One is quite a large device - an imposing black monolith in your living room. The PS 4 is sleeker, slimmer, and much less likely to dominate the space around your TV. Although, in principle, both consoles have similar stern masculine features.

Xbox One is 10% larger than the previous generation Xbox. It weighs about the same as the previous console - about 3 kilograms. PS 4 is only slightly lighter at 2.8 kg. This shouldn't be a big surprise since they are made of similar parts.

Why extra space on Xbox One? It is likely that part of the internal volume is intended to improve the cooling system. Overheating was a major issue in the Xbox 360, responsible for the "red ring problem" that plagued the console of previous years.

Chargers and cables are also worth considering when it comes to set-top box design. The Xbox One has a huge brick of power supply that needs to be turned on and off. This makes it much more difficult to manage cables neatly, as it requires space and is not too difficult to access to plug in. On the other hand, the PS 4 has a single power cable that plugs directly into an outlet. There are no traces of any bulky power supplies, which means moving the console from room to room is much easier.

Of course, from a space perspective, it's preferable to have a PS 4 in your room, although the Xbox One may be more reliable in the long run thanks to its cooling system. For a year and a half, no critical problems were identified with the hardware of both consoles, which is good news for consumers.

Interface
Let's take a moment to look at what the user interfaces of both consoles look like.

Appearance software Xbox One is clearly inspired by the elements Windows Phone and Windows 8. Microsoft definitely wanted to achieve some level of parity between platforms.

On the outside, everything looks modern, but many users criticize the software for crashes and bouts of strange behavior. So the Xbox One is currently experiencing certain problems with this component. This is definitely something Microsoft needs to address if they want their console owners to have access to functionality beyond just playing games from discs.

PS 4 has a simple, somewhat less ambitious user interface. Most of them use scrolling in one direction, which gives the impression of a more intuitive interface.

However, there is still a lot of room for improvement here. For example, you can't list Netflix apps in the "Recently Used" list, even though many console users love them.

Controllers
Which controller is better? Xbox One gamepad or DualShock 4? It's not that easy to decide!

Both gamepads are largely the same as their predecessors, but the DualShock still feels like it has undergone big changes. Microsoft went with what worked well in the previous generation controller. The new gamepad has undergone an adjustment rather than a redesign.

There were two main changes. The Xbox One gamepad has vibration motors built into the triggers, which give a response, for example, when shooting. Microsoft has also made huge strides in the D-pad area. The overly soft D-pad on the Xbox 360 gamepad has become much more clickable and responsive. This will work wonders in games like Street Fighter.

Unfortunately, the Xbox One controller still requires a pair of AA batteries to operate, rather than being rechargeable like the DualShock 4. You'll have to buy the roughly $29 Play and Charge kit for each controller separately.

However, if you use AA batteries, you will definitely notice that the operating time of the Xbox One controller is much higher than that of the DualShock 4. The PS 4 gamepad, apparently, will have to be charged after each game session.

The changes in DualShock 4 are much more noticeable. It is slightly shorter than the previous version and much heavier. It seems that this gamepad is harder than the DualShock 3.

Sony has significantly improved the analog sticks of the DualShock 4. The DualShock 3 was not entirely comfortable for first-person shooters, but now the DualShock 4 is completely suitable for any genre of console games. There's also a new touchpad between the thumbsticks and the main buttons, and the Share key makes it easy to download gameplay videos.

After all this, can we say that we have found a winner? Hardly. If you liked the Xbox 360 controller, then you'll prefer the new Xbox One controller. However, the DualShock 4 gives a feeling of ruggedness that was missing from the previous generation.

Who is more powerful?

If you're a hardcore gamer, chances are you're wondering how the game compares to different devices very big.

Which console is more powerful? The answer is simple - PlayStation 4. Let's look at why this is so from the technical side.

Experience now shows that some multi-platform games, such as Battlefield 4, run at lower resolutions on Xbox One and higher resolutions on PS4. This may change in the future as developers become more familiar with a particular console. But at the start, the PlayStation 4 has an obvious advantage.

CPU
Xbox One– 8-core AMD processor Jaguar
PS 4- 8-core AMD Jaguar processor

Xbox One and PS 4 use extremely similar processors from AMD. Also, both use a hybrid type of microprocessor architecture, which allows you to combine the central and graphic processors.

Xbox One runs at 1.75 GHz, which has been increased from 1.6 GHz in the base version. Sony is a little slower at 1.6 GHz. Some may think that the Xbox One has more power. This is not the case. The power of the GPU plays a more important role here.

GPU and RAM
Xbox One- analogue of Radeon HD 7000 series, 8GB DDR3 RAM and 32 MB eSRAM
PS 4- analogue of Radeon HD 7000 series, 8 GB GDDR5 RAM

Both consoles also use AMD GPUs.

At first glance, the GPUs seem to be identical, but they are not. On paper, the PS 4's GPU is 50% more powerful: 1,152 shader processors versus the Xbox One's 768.

Realizing that this situation does not look good, Microsoft decided to improve the performance of the Xbox by increasing the GPU speed from 800MHz to 853MHz. A good help for developers, but it is unlikely to be enough to catch up with the PS 4.

The extra processing power in the PS 4 will allow you to handle more tasks at once, which in theory should result in more impressive visuals.

A more powerful GPU is paired with more impressive RAM. The PS4 uses GDDR5 memory, while the Xbox One uses the more common DDR3 - and in both cases the capacity is 8GB.

GDDR5 has much higher bandwidth than DDR3 as it was specifically designed for resource-intensive applications.

If DDR3 was all the Xbox One had, it would be a very serious problem. But this console has an eSRAM buffer, which should help bridge the 100GB/sec gap in memory bandwidth between the two different types.

The information that the PS 4 is more powerful than the Xbox One has caused a significantly higher number of pre-orders for the console from Sony.

With a more powerful GPU and seemingly faster memory, the PlayStation 4 has greater graphics capabilities. But how do they compare with the capabilities of PC video cards? Basically, the Xbox One can be compared to the Radeon 7790, and the PS 4 can be compared to the Radeon 7870. The price difference between these cards is about $50 - that's all you need to know if you're a PC gamer.

However, EA's chief technology officer, Rajat Tenea, claims that consoles are a generation ahead of the top-end PC on the market. This seems ridiculous considering that such a computer can cost thousands of dollars, and the console is only a few hundred.

However, the indisputable fact is that the current generation of consoles is 8-10 times more powerful than the previous one. However, let's not forget that increasing graphical fidelity requires an exponential increase in power - which means we won't be looking at games that look 8-10 times better.

Graphic arts
One of the main reasons why gamers preferred the PS 4 over the Xbox One was its more powerful graphics hardware. But will such an advantage translate into better graphics in games?

In a number of cases this is true. It's not necessarily the absence of any effects, less complex shadows or other obvious reductions in the graphics part, but the output resolution plays an important role. In many games, PS 4 displays a higher resolution than Xbox One.

On a good 1080p TV, you can see the difference in the image, but you'll have to look closely to see it. However, the current generation of games does not have a huge difference when running on different consoles.

Below are a few screenshots from graphics comparison videos:

This screenshot gives the impression that the image on the Xbox One is more detailed, but it's worth considering that the details on the PS 4 are somewhat obscured by the dust effect. When viewing footage from PS 4, you can see that the image on them has more contrast. This is quite noticeable in video comparison graphics.

The situation is the same - frames from PS 4 are more contrasty, and the road textures also look better.

Digital Foundry spent a lot of time to see the differences between the hardware of the two consoles. They built computers using the same graphics hardware as consoles. The results showed that the performance of the PS4 counterpart was 24% higher.

Facts in favor of Xbox One.

Larger size can mean greater reliability.
The sheer size of the Xbox One console allows for more room for air circulation, which can keep the console from overheating even when running under load for long periods of time.

The Kinect sensor is undeniably cool.
Not everyone is a fan of the Kinect, but it has some serious potential that the PS 4 camera doesn't have. For example, you can use it to control your console using gestures.

Xbox One exclusives - Sunset Overdrive and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
If you haven't played Halo yet, now is a great time to get acquainted with this universe. The entire Halo series and all multiplayer maps are being remastered in HD for Xbox One. Sunset Overdrive's colorful, varied and slightly manic gameplay could also be a strong case for Xbox One.

Connecting an additional hard drive.
One of the most requested features for the Xbox One was the ability to connect an additional hard drive. The developers have implemented the ability to connect two additional drives with a capacity of 256 GB or more. Once the console has formatted them, the drives can be used to store games, applications, and other content.

The media player will turn the Xbox One into an entertainment system.
Xbox One allows you not only to play media files from USB devices, but also to connect a cable or satellite TV set-top box. You can play and watch TV at the same time. There's also access to Skype for Xbox One, YouTube, Twitch and more.

Games with golden perks.
As with the Xbox 360, if you're an Xbox Live Gold member, you'll get 2 free games per month, plus various discounts that can help you save big on games.

Facts in favor of PlayStation 4.

Takes up less space.
If you have a cramped room, then this will be an obvious advantage of the PS 4. It really takes up much less space. This is also due to the fact that this console does not have an inconvenient power supply. In addition, transporting the PS 4, for example, to a friend’s house, will be very easy.

PlayStation 4 is more powerful.
PS 4 has a significantly more powerful GPU. The performance difference is about 50%.

Remote play for Vita.
This feature allows you to play full PS 4 games on your Vita using a Wi-Fi connection. Perhaps this only matters to owners of this device, but in any case it’s a nice feature.

Playstation TV allows you to play on any TV in your home.
This feature was announced at E3 2014. It will allow you to play games on any TV in the house, even if the TV to which the console is connected is busy watching some TV shows. The Playstation TV will cost around $130, which may be a bit pricey, but it's definitely a very useful addition.

Excellent free games program PS Plus.
A subscription to this service will cost about $60 per year and it includes, among other things, one free game per month. Currently, this program is more profitable than Live Gold from Xbox One.

PS 4 gamepad is better.
This may be a controversial statement, but in my opinion the PS 4 gamepad gives the best impression in terms of materials and responsiveness.

PS4 Share Play is a very important feature.
PS4 Share Play became available after update 2.0. This is a completely new feature that will create what Sony calls a “virtual sofa.” The function creates a local co-op game, but online, that is, you can invite your friend to play not only multiplayer, but also a story-based company. Moreover, your friend may not even own this game. Each session has an hour time limit, but there is no limit on the number of sessions.

Bottom line

PlayStation 4 is still better suited as a gaming choice. The excellent PlayStation Plus service, a larger power reserve and, it seems to us, a slightly more comfortable gamepad speak in favor of this decision. The situation with exclusives will be improved by The Order: 1886 and Bloodborne, while the big three Far Cry, Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty still feel more comfortable on PS 4 hardware. By choosing Xbox One, you are most likely purchasing an entertainment station from the “all in” category. one." Combining games with television, a music player and even a set of fitness applications will allow the device to find fans with different requirements and tastes. From a gamer's perspective, this console is supported by a fairly strong lineup of exclusive games. In addition, this console saves you some money, which is also important. There's no wrong choice between these consoles right now.

Today there are many different devices on the gaming industry market. Games are released on smartphones, tablets, computers, and, of course, game consoles. Among the latter, there are many different models, but the two main top-end devices are and. And if you can’t decide which company to give preference to, the American Microsoft or the Japanese Sony, this article is for you, in which comparison of xbox one and ps4.

Playstation 4: general information

The world first saw this device in the second half of 2013, a year earlier than it released its Microsoft product. This allowed us to conquer the market - today the PS 4 community is 3 times larger than that of the Xbox. The console is positioned by Sony as a gaming device, and its multimedia functions are secondary. Because of this, it has more powerful hardware installed.

The first version of PlayStation 4 is presented with the following technical characteristics:

  • The processor is an eight-core AMD x86-64 “Jaguar” with a core frequency of 1600 MHz. It is completely enough to play all modern games in Full HD resolution.
  • The graphics processor in the device is AMD Radeon Graphics Core Next. Its tests give a result of 1.84 Tflops. (Teraflops is a value that shows the number of floating point operations per second. Nothing clear, right? In short, the higher this value, the higher the graphics performance.)
  • The amount of RAM is 8 GB with a bandwidth of 178 GB/sec. You won't notice its lack in games.
  • The hard drive has a size of 500 GB, it is enough to install 4-5 games.

General information on hardware is given, a more detailed list is available on our website.

Now let's look at the configuration of the device. In addition to the console itself, the box contains a power cable, headphones, USB and microUSB cables, an HDMI cable, and a controller - Dualshock 4.

New versions of PlayStation

But times are changing, developers are releasing new, more demanding games, and the regular Playstation 4 is outdated. In August 2016, Sony released two new versions of the device: Slim and Pro.

The slim version is almost no different from the regular one. The case has been reduced and improved, USB 3.1 ports have been added, and minor changes in performance have been added. A larger volume appeared HDD. But the new version of PS 4 Pro is a separate topic for discussion.

The main purpose of the PS 4 Pro is gaming in 4K resolution. Therefore, the performance of the device has been significantly increased. Now the GPU test gives a result of 4.5 Tflops. The frame rate per second has also been increased. However, for a high-quality picture you will need a 4k TV that meets the requirements.

Xbox One: General Information

Microsoft provided its console a year later, losing a lot in the community. The device is positioned as a media center for the home. And although the main purpose is games, the functions of watching movies and communicating on the Internet are clearly expressed in the Xbox. Now, keeping up with market trends, Microsoft has introduced new version– Xbox One S. Also announced for the fall of 2017 is the Xbox One Project Scorpio with support for 4K resolution in games with a 6 Tflops GPU.

The first model of the Xbox Van has the following characteristics:

  • Processor - 8-core x86-64 APU, clocked at 1.75 GHz. Gaming in Full HD resolution is also possible.
  • GPU: AMD Radeon GCN. Tests have shown that its performance is 1.3 Tflops.
  • RAM – 8 GB with a bandwidth of 68.6 GB/sec.
  • In the first version, the hard drive has a capacity of 500 GB, but in the S version there are variations with 1 TB or 2 TB.
  • You can also see more detailed specifications on our website http://site/.
  • The kit includes a gamepad, an HDMI cable, a power supply, a set of batteries and a two-week subscription to Xbox Live.

A special word should be said about Kinect technology. Kinect is a wireless controller for the Xbox console. The PlayStation has no analogue. However, its presence does not make the Microsoft product better. In the S version it is completely removed. It is not used in most games and is mostly useless.

Xbox One S version

There are no significant differences from the first version. The case is reduced by 40% and the absence of a power supply is quite a nice bonus, but not worth 25 thousand rubles.
There is now the ability to watch movies in 4K, useful for those few who have a 4K TV. There are no big differences in hardware, and if you have an Xbox Van, then you don’t need the S version.

Somehow we got too carried away by the technical characteristics, let's move on to the main question: Whatis it better xbox one or ps4? Here we will consider the latest versions capable of competition: PS 4 Slim and Xbox One S. We will not consider the PS 4 Pro version in this comparison, since Microsoft has nothing to compete with Sony yet.

We will compare according to the following criteria:

  1. Specifications;
  2. Appearance;
  3. Controllers;
  4. Community;
  5. Exclusives;
  6. Price;
  7. Manufacturer support.

Criterion 1 – “Filling”

All the internals of the updated models from both companies remained the same as the first ones. Only appearance.

In the technical confrontation xbox one s vs ps4 slim, the second one wins. It’s not surprising, since the Sony console is positioned as a gaming console, while the Xbox is more intended for media functions. Most of the Xbox functions are not available in Russia; they only work in the United States.

Criterion 2 – “Beauty”

The first thing that is compared is the dimensions of the device. And, although Microsoft reduced the size of the device by 40% (Sony by 17%), the PS 4 Slim is smaller in size. Before the update, the Microsoft product resembled a small PC, now it’s better, but in comparison with the PlayStation 4 it loses a lot.

Both companies did their best with the design; there is no better one. Everything is subjective. Whichever console you like best, choose that one.

Criterion 3 – Input devices

In addition to gamepads, which will be discussed below, consoles have additional devices input. PS4 has a camera and sound controls. Xbox One has a camera, sound controls and Kinect 2.0.

In version S, the built-in Kinect was removed from the Xbox, but the external connection function of this development remained. This solution made it possible to reduce the size of the case and place the power supply inside the console.

Since the Xbox One is positioned as a media center, it has a better camera than the Ps 4. The sound controls are the same on both devices.

Now about the most important component of gameplay - the controller. There are no significant differences in structure. The usual joystick handles, slightly improved. Both devices have good response and excellent controllability. The main difference is in the power source. PS 4 has a built-in battery, Xbox one has replaceable batteries. On the one hand, the removable battery can be recharged, and you won’t need to buy anything else. But it only lasts for 6 hours. But the batteries, after they are discharged, can be replaced and continue playing. But they need to be purchased additionally.

Criterion 4 – Gaming Community

The early release date allowed Sony to grow its community three times larger than Microsoft's. Both companies provide ways to share gaming content on Twitch or YouTube. But PlayStation 4 implements this function more simply and conveniently.

A simple rule will help in choosing a console for the community: if one of the consoles prevails in your close circle, buy it. This way you can play with your friends.

Another advantage of PS 4 is the lack of protection on discs. They can be easily exchanged with friends.

Criterion 5 – Exclusives

Developers specifically release games for consoles. They are easier to develop and optimize. And besides, payment is guaranteed - they will not be uploaded to torrents like PC games. Each console comes with its own exclusives, and choosing between these two devices should also be based on what games you want to play.

Sony's exclusives policy looks better than Microsoft's. The latest game is coming out on both console and PC. Owners of PlayStation 4 feel more unique in this regard, because exclusive games are released only for their platform.

Criterion 6 – Manufacturer support

It's always nice if someone takes care of you, even if they are console manufacturers. Let's look at how manufacturing companies support users.

Microsoft allows you to use Xbox One as a media center for watching movies, communicating on the Internet, etc. In Russia, most of these functions are not available, only gaming activities are possible. But the company has located servers in Europe, and the speed of downloading data from the servers is higher than that of its competitor.

Sony guarantees free repair of its consoles in the Russian Federation. A nice bonus. But the connection speed to the servers is not as fast as Microsoft. If you have an Internet speed of 1 Gb/sec, you will not be able to use it fully.

Criterion 6 – Cost

The price for 500 GB will be 18,900 rubles, at . 1 TB versions cost 19,900 and 25,990 respectively.

Bottom line

So, finally, let’s answer the question: “Playstation or Xbox, which is better?” Let's say right away that we did not consider the “ps4 pro or xbox one” pair due to the lack of competitive products from Microsoft.

In our subjective opinion, buying a Ps 4 Slim is more profitable than buying an Xbox One S. Firstly, greater performance allows you to play more modern games. Secondly, the price is lower. Thirdly, a more beautiful appearance. Fourthly, the gaming community is 3! times more than the Xbox. If you choose a console for games, then the PlayStation 4 is the best option.

But this is a subjective opinion, choose what you like best.

To determine in detail the capabilities of the devices, the technical equipment table will help.

The listed characteristics will allow you to decide for yourself which is better - PlayStation or Xbox - for home use. Despite some similarities in technical specifications Both consoles, their prices differ significantly.

Previous device models differed well from each other in terms of performance, so there was no need to choose which was better - Xbox 360 or PS3 - since PS was an ideal alternative.

PS4 or Xbox One: which is better in appearance

It is worth noting that it has acquired more impressive dimensions, unlike its predecessor, the Xbox 360. In terms of external parameters, the device resembles a “big box” of black color. Accordingly, the purchase of this gaming device will not differ from what you had before.

Pay attention to the very large power supply. This device requires regular plugging and unplugging, so neatly packing cables is out of the question. Speaking about the PlayStation 4, one notices its elegant design with streamlined, smooth body shapes. This device fits even into a minimal niche in the bedside table under your TV. The body of the game console is also made in black. PS4 has only one cable for power supply via the electrical network, making it easier to place the wire and connect it to a power outlet. Due to this characteristic, you will not spoil the aesthetic appearance in the area where the TV is located.

The design appearance of both devices is significantly different from each other.

Which console - Xbox One or PS4 - is better in terms of configuration?

Each gaming device has several sets: basic and with several advanced functions. This indicates the comparative novelty of these devices. There is a possibility that in the future these products will receive more impressive sets, of course, if the manufacturer does not release updated models of consoles.

Playstation or Xbox: which is better in terms of interface parameters

Evaluating the interface, analysts determined that the software is not as smooth as the manufacturer claims. Based on user reviews, we can safely judge that there are regular crashes in programs and spontaneous reboots of the Xbox one device. This is the problem that worries me modern user and makes you wonder what is better to buy - Xbox One or PS4.

In this regard, everything is much simpler for the Sony console. The device has a lightweight custom Russian-language interface system. This allows you to browse the game menu using a traditional analog stick. This idea of the program allows children from 6 years of age to use the gaming device.

The interface parameters also determine the comfort of using the system.

There are nuances for correction in programming the PS4 system. For example, applications that were recently used are not available in the corresponding menu. Games are still on Netflix.

Console management options

Not a single game console is complete without input devices, including PS4 and Xbox One. If in the case of the first device it is clear that the gamepad is significantly different from what was in the previous model of the console, then here it becomes more elegant, acquires new capabilities and updates its dimensions. The device already has a touch panel, which allows you to use all the subtleties of game control.

For Playstation, it is allowed to install utilities that respond to the user’s voice, but this feature is not included in the basic package. This version of PS4 also supports motion controllers and cameras borrowed from previous console models. If we compare the control device between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One models, we note the best in the latest variation. The gamepad differs from the previous one in the presence of rechargeable batteries. A “cross” and some additional keys were also added here.

The ease of controlling a gaming system depends on the placement of the keys on the controller.

As a result of the comparison, both input devices fit neatly and comfortably into the user’s hands: they do not slip, all buttons are in an accessible area.

Ps4 and Xbox One: comparison of graphics and image capabilities

Which console is better - Xbox one or Ps4 - will be shown by a graphics analysis using the example of the custom game GTA 5. It is this video game that will help to get an ideal idea of the graphic capabilities of each of the presented consoles. We draw the attention of gamers to the fact that Playstation 4 does a better job of displaying game images. Let's look at the features of the “picture” on the screen:

  • fine details of the image are perfectly visible;
  • the picture does not blur or blur during movement;
  • video does not lag behind the sound;
  • the boundaries of objects are clearly visible: transport, plants, buildings, people;
  • there is an image extension in 1080p format;
  • The frame rate is 30−60 pcs./sec.

The game displays slightly differently on Xbox:

  • frequency - 30/60fps;
  • the application is displayed in a format from 720p to 900p;
  • Moderate clarity of the picture in motion is noted.

From the graphical data it can be judged that these models are quite improved compared to the previous ones. If you believe expert research, then Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro, as the comparison shows, will have differences in hardware and software. These flagships will support 4K gaming. In addition, these consoles will differ in technical parameters and appearance.

Power and performance of PS4 Pro and Xbox One X

An updated version of the consoles was released in 2016. Here it is appropriate to talk about the additional power of devices and other capabilities. Again, it is necessary to compare the two options for gaming devices.

Xbox One XPS4 Pro
8-core processor with a frequency of 2.3 GHz.8-core processor, 3.2 GHz.
12 GB of memory, where the bandwidth is 326 Gbit/s.Only 5.5 GB of memory is available for games.
Support - 4K/60 fps.Support – 4K/30fps.
HDR technology support on both devices
Only specially designed applications can be installed.Ability to support updated versions of games.
Receiving special patches.There is checkerboard rendering in a resolution of 3840×2160.
Upscaling appears in some games.The resolution changes depending on the load of the game episode.

It is believed that in 2017, Sony and Microsoft will begin to seriously improve their consoles, both in appearance and software, and the already updated PS4 slim and Xbox one s models will become more popular among users in comparison.

Each manipulator for the console is alternative for its version.

Input devices - which is better: Dualshock 4 or the new Microsoft Gamepad

The question of which joystick is best for consoles remains relevant to this day. After all, this is a means of direct contact between the player and the gaming application. Based on initial user surveys and researchers’ analyses, it is worth noting that both gamepads turned out to be perfect. With their help, it is equally convenient to control the characters in the game. However, there are some points that must be taken into account:

  • DualShock 4 has acquired compact features;
  • the appearance of the PS4 buttons has not changed, which is familiar to the user;
  • changes in keys and dimensions are obvious in the Xbox controller;
  • The D-pad on the Xbox has changed for the better (this is the main difference from the Xbox 360 version);
  • Xbox buttons are not difficult to press (which players say is somewhat uncomfortable).

But what is better - PS4 or Xbox One released in 2017, compared to manipulators, is still unclear, we can only wait to see how the console developers will change the situation.

Which console is better - Xbox One or PS4: comparative analysis of the number of available games on the console

Any of the proposed gaming devices can support both the same games and have individual exclusive new items. It is noted that the PS4 is significantly ahead of the Microsoft console. Unique applications include Uncharted 4, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Persona 5, as well as balanced AAA blockbusters.

Each console differs in the number of games for use

Xbox is also not far from cool exclusives. There are also unique apps available for this console, including Gears of War 4, Halo 5, Forza Horizon 3, and Sunset Overdrive, to name a few. The console's unique ability is the ability to run PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

Advantages and disadvantages of PS4

Among the advantages and disadvantages of the Sony Playstation are:

  • compactness and originality of appearance;
  • accessibility to the most popular games;
  • availability of wireless network connection;
  • successful internal parameters and software;
  • availability of additional equipment for the console;
  • possibility to purchase additional accessories.

Among the disadvantages of the device is its high cost, and the newer the version and the more complete the kit, the more expensive the device.

Advantages and disadvantages of Xbox One

Important privileges in favor of the console are noted, such as:

  • availability of two free games every month;
  • acceptable technical parameters;
  • affordable prices and the possibility of discounts on games and applications;
  • presence of an EA Access subscription for 250 rubles per month.

However, this console is still far from perfect, unlike newer versions of consoles.

Which is better to buy - Xbox One or PS4: price review and cost comparison

The estimated cost of the Xbox one console is about 15,000 rubles. It all depends on the configuration, as well as the country of assembly of the device. It is worth noting that the improved models, released somewhat later, differ significantly in price category from previous versions; Xbox One X costs more than 38,000 rubles.

A new PS4 costs at least 19,000 rubles. It all depends on the configuration, as well as the country of assembly of the device. More advanced models differ in price category - PS4 PRO costs 29,900 rubles. The better the parameters of the systems, the higher their cost.

Discounts are provided for each of the game consoles; accordingly, you can purchase a console for 16,000–17,000 rubles. Of course, you need to get into the bonus program, for which specific conditions apply.
