The most popular causes of the error “No Internet access”

A typical type of error is shown in Fig. 1. It can arise for a large number of reasons (it’s unlikely that all of them can be considered in one article). But in most cases, you can fix this error quickly and on your own. By the way, despite the obvious evidence of some of the reasons below in the article, they are in most cases the stumbling block...

1. Failure, network or router error

If your Wi-Fi network was working normally, and then the Internet suddenly disappeared, then most likely the reason is trivial: an error simply occurred and the router (Windows 10) reset the connection.

For example, when I (several years ago) had a “weak” router at home, during intensive downloading of information, when the download speed exceeded 3 Mb/s, it would break connections and a similar error would appear. After replacing the router, this error (for this reason) no longer occurred!

To go to the properties of your network adapter, simply right-click on it (see Fig. 7).

Then you need to go to the properties of IP version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and put two pointers to:

Obtain an IP address automatically;
Obtain DNS server addresses automatically (see Figure 8).

After installing the latest Windows 10, you want to try out all sorts of functions of the operating system, download and install programs - in general, try it out 100%. But it may turn out that the first time you start it, for some reason the Internet does not work. This is a fairly common problem that can be solved by knowing the specifics of your network connection.

Ways to access the web

Used at home:

Ethernet
WiFi
PPPoE
3G/4G USB modems

The most common connection method, used by most providers that provide unlimited access to network resources, is a regular wire that runs into the apartment and is directly plugged into the network card connector. This connection is called Ethernet. In addition to a direct connection, the wire can first go to the router or ADSL modem, and then to the computer.

Wi-Fi connection is no less popular, but behind it is usually the same Ethernet, only the router distributes the Internet throughout the apartment using the Wi-Fi signal. Some providers provide access via a high-speed channel - PPPoE connection. In fact, the same wire, but the setup is completely different. Finally, in recent years, compact USB modems that you can take with you have become very popular. They operate in the 3G and 4G bands.

If after a clean installation of Windows 10 or upgrading it from a “seven”/”eight” you do not have the Internet, first of all determine which connection method from the ones listed above you are using.

By the way : If the network does not work after upgrading to Windows 10, pay attention to the installed programs. Conflicts between antivirus and firewall, for example, can easily lead to similar errors.

It looks like this: the computer perfectly sees the network card and wireless connections, but even when connected, it does not load pages in the browser. You need to remove the conflicting applications and reboot.

Solution

Knowing for sure the type of connection, it is easier to understand “where to dig.” It’s good if the driver for the network card is simply not installed. This can happen in the following cases:

if the standard package of Windows 10 components does not include a driver for the network equipment of your model (if) - just install it;
if the driver from the previous OS version did not suit the “top ten”, a newer version is needed, and in some cases a rollback to an older one;
If, when upgrading to a new operating system, the driver crashes for some reason, simply install a new one.

Determining whether the lack of Internet is due to the lack of a driver is very simple: the computer will not find the equipment, be it a network card or a USB modem - they will not be detected in the system or will appear as unknown. Of course, the driver for the network card must be downloaded from the official website of the card manufacturer or motherboard, if the card is built-in.

No matter how great the temptation is to do this using an auto-installer program for all the necessary drivers, it is better to abandon this method. There is a high chance of installing the wrong software, which will then entail unnecessary efforts to remove and clean up debris.

How to start a network if you have Ethernet

Ideally, it is enough to stretch the wire from the provider to the computer directly, connect it to the appropriate connector and everything should work (of course, with a properly functioning network card driver). This means that your provider uses DHCP technology, that is, it distributes IP addresses to its subscribers automatically.

But such an option as “white” IP is also possible, that is, static, issued to each subscriber. This address, as well as the DNS used, should have been given to you on a printout on the day you connected to the Internet. If you haven’t found such a sheet, all you have to do is call technical support and tell them your subscriber number. You need to fill in the required information at:

Here you need to select the items “Use the following (IP and DNS)” and enter your numbers. If the Internet does not work, try rebooting.

Similar actions can be done if the cord goes first to the router or ADSL modem, and then to the computer. If everything is done correctly, but there is still no Internet, check whether the listed devices are working correctly. There is still a small chance that the provider binds to the MAC address of the network card. Clarify this issue in communication with technical support, if required.

Important : The checkboxes opposite the lines “IP versions 4 and 6” should be checked. Sometimes they are not there and this becomes the reason for the Internet not working.

WiFi

Typically, Windows 10 installs the driver for Wi-Fi without any problems and the Internet works the first time you turn it on. If there is no network, as in the previous part, check whether the drivers for the Ethernet and Wi-Fi adapter are installed and whether the latter is turned on (does the computer see other Wi-Fi networks), check the checkboxes in the properties of the Ethernet adapter and whether the router is configured correctly .

PPPoE

After installing a new OS, there is no PPPoE connection by default - it needs to be configured. It may also crash when upgrading to Windows 10. To fix the situation, follow these steps:

After that, in the window that opens, enter the connection data given to you by your provider (login and password). If you don’t have them, then call technical support. Click “Connect”.

USB modem

Similar to the previous method, you need to create a new connection, first making sure that the modem is “picked up” by the system (the driver is installed and the device is detected correctly). If there is no driver for your modem model for Windows 10, an “eight” or “seven” may be suitable. The steps for creating a new connection are similar to working with setting up PPPoE, only after the “Internet Connection” item, select “Dial-up” (will appear in the list if the modem is working correctly) and in the window that opens, enter your data: number, login and password.

Please note: after installing or upgrading to Windows 10, when using a 3G or 4G modem, there may be no Internet due to poor coverage or signal. That is, the OS itself is not always to blame in such a situation.
