How to fix a button on a laptop. Can you fix a key on a laptop? How to fix button on acer laptop keyboard

The keyboard of a laptop or desktop computer is one of the most frequently used technical inventions. Write a letter, fill out a form on the site, play a game - for all this, it is simply necessary. But from prolonged use, the keyboard buttons break. Can you fix them yourself?

You will need

  • - thick needle;
  • - curved clip.

Instruction

  • Inspect the keyboard and determine the cause of the breakdown. Usually the button, breaking, just jumps out. It is necessary to consider in detail what exactly is broken at the moment. Pay attention to the principle of fastening the buttons on the keyboard. The basis for the button is a small square-lock, which unfolds like a "clamshell". Mounting points are also marked on the base. The button itself has pins according to the size of the base mounts.
  • Take a thick needle to correct the situation if, when the button breaks, its “clamshell” has lost its properties, as the frames have come off. The task is to connect the two frames of the base again. Carefully and carefully, commensurate with the force of movement, insert the fastening pins of one part of the base into the recesses of its other part and fix this position.
  • After that, take a curved paperclip. It is needed in order to install the button after fixing the "clamshell" in the correct position. Slightly lift the “clamshell” with a paperclip and in this position, set the button from above. Press lightly until the latch clicks.
  • If the keyboard button "exploded" under the fingers and flew out along with the latch, then you need to disassemble the button. To do this, disconnect the “clamshell”-latch by snapping off one end and pulling the other out of the ears.
  • On the keyboard, find three tabs for the latch - one larger and two small. Take the latch and slide it onto the mounts, starting with the large one. Please note that the lugs are made of aluminum and break easily, after which the button repair turns into a keyboard repair.
  • After the latch is hooked on the large eye, lightly press until it clicks, push the other two fasteners. Then install the top of the button by simply aligning the slots of the "clamshell" latch with the protrusions of the cap.
  • Laptop repair service centers are often contacted with such a problem as a broken or dropped button. Even one key that is out of order can cause problems with the operation of the computer. How to fix the button on an acer laptop may differ from laptops from other manufacturers. This is due to the fact that keyboards differ in design in different models of laptops. Therefore, at first you must, and then you can only look at how to attach keys on the Internet. However, there are also general recommendations on how to fix a key without resorting to the services of specialists.

    Possible causes of failure

    The keyboard on a laptop is usually quite thin, and its buttons have little travel. In this regard, this part on the laptop is very susceptible to mechanical stress. The most common cause of failure is spilled liquid. In this case, the conductive paths fail, and one or more buttons, and sometimes the entire keyboard, stop working.

    In addition, the keys are clogged with dust, pet hair, dirt, etc. in this case, you need to properly. When the user starts cleaning the keyboard on their own, often the button falls out as a result of some wrong action. It's annoying, but it's fixable. And you can find out how to clean the keyboard without consequences without consequences for it from this. Well, then let's take a closer look at how to fix a button on an asus laptop or models from other manufacturers.

    What to do if the button on the laptop is broken

    Despite the fact that laptops differ from each other, the way they attach buttons is usually the same. In fact, the key is a rubber base with a built-in contact. When the button is pressed, the contact is in contact with the circuit, as a result of which the desired action occurs. Therefore, it is necessary to restore contact, make sure that it is correctly established.

    Before you fix the button on an hp laptop, like on other laptops, you should understand the cause of the breakdown. If the key is stuck, then you need to try to pull it back or just remove it. For this operation, you will need a special screwdriver or a thick needle. Place the end of the tool under the button and gently pull up. You do not need to apply a lot of force, the action is done smoothly, otherwise there is a risk of damaging the key, and it will be quite difficult to find a replacement part. As a result of manipulations, the button should pop up.

    Before proceeding with the repair, you should inspect the key. It may not work due to mechanical damage. If the button cannot be restored, then replacing it with a new one cannot be avoided. You can buy a separate part of the keyboard in repair shops. In the case where the key can be glued, you can use super glue. It is important that the contact ends up in the same place where it was, otherwise the button will not work anyway.

    If the key has fallen out, then the following actions should be performed. First you need to understand the button fastening design, which is usually the same. On the reverse side of the key there are latches and grooves in which there are “ears” of the rocker, the purpose of which is to connect the entire keyboard with the cover of a separate button. In the case when the key fell out along with this rocker, they should be separated. Next, the rocker is installed directly, on which the button cover will be placed. These two elements are connected to each other by grooves that are located on them. Before proceeding with the manipulations, in the opened niche, remove all the dirt with a napkin, the surface you are working with must be clean.

    As you can see, it is not so difficult to repair the button on your own, if you first understand what is the cause of the breakdown. However, when a liquid is spilled, it is not always possible to handle it yourself, since it is quite difficult to restore blurry contacts. In this case, you will either need to contact service center or you can. And it will not be difficult to install the dropped button in place even for a beginner who has encountered this for the first time.

    I had such a need due to the fact that a number of keys in different rows, both alphabetic and numeric, stopped working for me. Most of all, I was afraid that the controller was damaged and I wouldn’t be able to repair the laptop keyboard, but I still hoped that the matter was in the keyboard itself

    In this article, I will describe my actions, accompanying the text with photographs that I took specifically to make an informative, intelligible article about laptop keyboard repair.

    Since I know firsthand that the laptop keyboard is the most often worn out part of the laptop. Perhaps there are people among the readers who are ready to repair the laptop keyboard on their own, which is why I decided to write this article in a reader-friendly style.

    First you need to remove the keyboard, depending on the laptop model, the procedure will be different. Most often, the keyboard is screwed from the front panel, access to the bolts is usually closed by the front cover under the screen, which can be removed without much effort.

    The keyboard keys are fixed on elevators, so to speak, which have four attachment points, both to the key and to the keyboard pad.

    To remove the key, you need to carefully slip a small screwdriver or a tool suitable for this under it and make an effort by lifting the key up, as it were. In this case, the key will be released from the elevator locks and removed.
    Be extremely careful, the mechanism of both the elevator and the key mounts is plastic and it will not be difficult to break it, especially if there is no experience

    After you remove all the keys, you have to get the film out of the keyboard case and divide it into two parts.
    The film is usually a book that unfolds and has a transition on one side. It is better to separate the film after preheating, for example with a hairdryer, since the parts are usually glued quite well

    To repair damaged tracks, you will need a special highly conductive glue, ideally with a silver content, such glue you can find in the radio market or in specialty stores that sell everything for equipment and electronics repair. The price is not expensive, it cost me only 100 rubles to buy glue with silver in the composition, Kontaktol

    Next, using a multimeter, on the probes of which I soldered the needles, we look for damage and breaks, carefully piercing the tracks to make contact on the track. The tracks on the keyboard are covered with microfilm, so you can’t do without piercing with a probe needle

    After you find the damaged parts of the track, all that remains is to clean these places and carefully draw the track with silver Kontaktol and let it dry

    Basically everything. We collect in the reverse order and rejoice. The price of a laptop keyboard is on average 2000 rubles, to me repair cost 100 rubles - the price of Kontaktol, even there is still a lot of it left for the future, if anything ...

    Having learned the device of the button and a number of simple operations for its removal and installation, the user will be able to independently fix a small breakdown or replace the faulty key with a new one.

    laptop, unlike personal computer, has a built-in dialing device, the cost of which is significantly higher due to the compact size and integrity of the design. That is why its repair, including independent, is constantly in demand and economically justified.

    With prolonged use and active use, parts of the keyboard fall out or break, requiring replacement, are quite common.

    However, before running to the service center, let's try to figure out whether it is possible to insert a button into the laptop keyboard at home and, possibly, save money and personal time.

    Possible reasons

    There can be many possible reasons for breakage or loss of keys:

    To understand what this leads to and determine the likelihood of self-repair, consider the following cases when one or more keys fell out or do not work:

    1. the top part simply popped out of the mounts, got stuck, the plastic mount broke, or the fixing tabs on the aluminum base of the keyboard were bent. - We install, repair or change by ourselves;
    2. there was a short circuit and / or destruction of the conductive tracks due to a factory defect, liquid ingress or other extraneous interference. - It is worth contacting the service if you do not have certain skills;
    3. damage to the cable connecting to the motherboard. - Replacement (preferably by a specialist) of the film or the entire device.

    Given that the majority of users are amateurs, we will only consider fixing the breakdowns of the first case: mechanical damage.

    For this you may need:

    • a regular needle or from a syringe;
    • paper clip;
    • glue;
    • knife, small screwdriver;
    • wire cutters and pliers;
    • a thin soldering iron and a lighter;
    • small vise.

    The first two positions of the list are enough to simply insert the dropped item, and the rest may be needed for a small repair.

    Important: Please note right away that all work must be carried out ONLY with the device disconnected from the mains with the battery removed.

    Button and its design

    Before inserting a button into a laptop keyboard yourself, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with its design. This will help to properly repair, as well as easy and simple installation. It should be remembered and taken into account that, unlike a stationary one, a laptop keyboard has a shorter stroke.

    They consist of:

    • directly covers with latches - a rectangular piece of plastic that is pressed with a finger (hereinafter simply "lid"). On the inside there are two pairs of fasteners: latches and grooves, and on the long ones there is also a metal stiffness stabilizer;

    • folding X-shaped mechanism with latches that hold the lid. It is commonly referred to as "swing", "elevator", or "cot". Please note that each of the two parts of the folding mechanism is attached to the key in two places;

    • a spring element that raises and lowers the key, and also directly closes the electrical contact - a rubber cone-nipple (hereinafter simply, "spring");
    • films containing contact conductive pads and tracks.
    • A typical keyboard base in a laptop is an aluminum plate with a stamping with ears for good fixation of the clamshell and contact pad, under which there are three layers of film with conductive graphite tracks.

      Reliability of fastening of a swing provides uniformity of the course and lack of distortions when pressing a key.

      We draw attention to the fact that various manufacturers there may be slight design differences in the shape and types of retainers.

      Therefore, if necessary, the first time to disassemble it yourself, proceed carefully.

      Disassembly order

      There are often situations when it becomes necessary to completely remove and disassemble the button. For example, sinking, lack of response on the screen when it is pressed, or deformation of the lugs of the clamshell. Removing, disassembling and inserting a button into a laptop keyboard is quite easy.

      This will require a thin flat tool, such as a dental hook. As you know from the previous section, the swing is attached to the cover in four places. You can’t just bend and “tear” it - this deforms the swing and leads to damage.

      That's why:

      Inserting a button on a laptop is very easy

      First, once again carefully inspect all fasteners, ears, antennae and grooves. If you carefully studied the device and design, read the disassembly procedure, then putting the jumped-out element in place will not be difficult.

      This process includes two simple steps:

      Please note that sometimes the cover will fall out along with the swing. In such a case, it should be disassembled, audited, and only then installed. Moreover, first we insert the folding mechanism, and then the lid itself.

      The described process may seem complicated, but you should only try it once and you will see for yourself that inserting a button into a laptop keyboard is very simple!

      Installing large buttons

      Function keys ("space", "case", "tab", "enter", etc.) are larger than the others. It is this property that requires a slightly different order of their installation. The reason for this is the presence of a metal stabilizer, which ensures uniform pressing.

      On the keyboard substrate there are additional lugs for secure fixation of the stiffener itself.

      And although everything else is exactly the same as described above, we install long buttons on a clamshell in three stages:

      • At the first stage, we install the stabilizer.

        We put the ends of the fastening into special holes and fix it in the grooves that are located directly on the keyboard case;

      • on the second - we press and connect the lower part of the cover surface with the clamshell;

      • at the third stage, slightly pressing and snapping the upper latches on the lid and swing, put it in place.

      Please note that some long keys (for example, the spacebar) are fixed on two folding mechanisms and a stiffener.

      We repair keys

      As a rule, it is better not to start complex and time-consuming repairs on your own.

      After disassembling a faulty, badly functioning or torn key, you will have to make one of three decisions based on its careful examination:

      • put it back "as is", without changes;
      • purchase and install a new one (you can also use it);
      • make minor repairs or replacement of parts from the “donor” and continue operation.

      For last point You may find the tools mentioned above useful.

      Minor mechanical repairs include:

      • assembly and installation in the grooves of the parts of the mechanism that jumped out (quite often the clamshell “crumbles”);
      • correction of bent ears in the metal base of the keyboard (for example, when a heavy object falls on the keyboard);
      • gluing cracks, broken latches.

      It is not worth repairing the breakage of the latches and the swivel of the clamshell - it is better, if possible, to find a "donor" or replace the entire key. Smoothness of the course, softness and noiselessness of its work depends on it.

      A rubber spring is usually glued to a film with conductive tracks. Sometimes it happens that it falls out. In this case, before inserting the button into the laptop keyboard, you should carefully install it with the wide part towards the bottom, strictly in the center. Spring displacement during installation is not allowed.

      Having a problem with the keys? Try, if possible, to solve it yourself. This is not difficult! All you need is attention, perseverance, accuracy and a little time.
      Having received the necessary skills, you can, on occasion, save the life of your pet by quickly eliminating the consequences of moisture ingress or significantly extend it by performing a general cleaning from dust and crumbs.

      Useful advice: By the way, before disassembling the keyboard of your laptop completely, we strongly recommend taking a picture, just in case, of the order of the keys. This will greatly simplify and speed up the reassembly process!

    With the advent of laptops, one of the most common questions has become - how to fix the keyboard on a laptop yourself? Careful handling makes a laptop almost indestructible device, but physical damage always remains the main cause of all breakdowns.

    Starting to self-repair the keyboard, be sure to consider the following rules:

    1. It is worth carrying out repair manipulations only after disconnecting the laptop from the mains, and having previously removed the battery;
    2. The general design of the keyboard structure of different manufacturers may differ slightly from each other and the rules for its maintenance are naturally also different;
    3. Do not use force.

    How to fix a keyboard on a laptop when the button cover fell out?

    The essence of such a repair is very simple - the cover just needs to be returned to its place. The main difficulty is that, due to the compact size of the device itself, the fasteners are also very small, especially the grooves and latches.

    Repair of the keyboard should begin with an inspection of the place of damage for the presence of chips and cracks on the cover and in the place of its fastening. If everything is in order, you just need to install it back. There are 2 latches and 2 slots symmetrically on the cover, but on the elevator itself, which is attached to the keyboard, there are 2 elevators and 2 locks. It is necessary to quite tightly connect the grooves of the cover with the protrusions of the elevator, after which, without using force, install the latches in the locks until a characteristic click appears. It is worth considering that these manipulations must be carried out first with the bottom of the button, and then with the top - without confusing! During the installation process, you need to monitor the placement of the button so that it does not move to one side: the fasteners are very fragile and improper movement leads to their breakage.

    When problems arose with the loss of such keys: "enter", "space" or "shift", one more manipulation is added to the general installation scheme. The fact is that the large buttons are equipped with a special stabilizer that controls uniform pressing. Indeed, in the process of work, we do not always get exactly to the center of the button. It is worth clarifying that the stabilizer is a small piece of hard wire that is attached to the inside of the button. Both of its ends are reduced to special ears, which are located on both sides of the elevator. After that, the cover simply snaps into place.

    Modern products mainly use plastic, but some manufacturers do not save on metal. This feature is especially characteristic of Apple production. But every day, even this company produces more and more products from inexpensive plastic. If you are lucky enough to be the owner of a device with metal parts, it is worth remembering that initially a wire is installed at the attachment point, and only after that the key cover itself.

    How to return the fallen cover with an elevator to its place?

    It happens that the cover remained fastened to the elevator and, along with it, unfastened from the fasteners on the keyboard. If there is no damage, you can fix such a breakdown in a few minutes: first we fix the elevator in place, after which we install the cover itself. Of course, they must be carefully separated in advance, releasing the latches and protrusions. There are always metal elevator mounts on the keyboard - one wide eye at the bottom and two small ones at the top. Often, after a torn cover, the ears become bent and need to be carefully aligned. In this case, the main thing is not to overdo it and not break off the bent ears, because of which you will have to buy a new keyboard. It is better to choose a flat screwdriver and gradually align all the deformed parts.

    When nothing interferes with the repair, you need to put a wide eye into a suitable hole in the elevator, in parallel correcting the direction of the parts and smoothly lowering them to the moment correct installation. If the key does not fall into place, you need to check again if the elevator is skewed or the fasteners are bent. It is worth trying again and everything will fall into place.

    Do not worry if, when separating the elevator from the button cover, the elevator broke into two parts - it can be easily returned to its previous state by connecting the grooves and protrusions on both sides. Sometimes, for such jewelry work, it is better to use a needle or a match. You need to act in the following sequence: on the one hand, you need to insert the ledge into the corresponding groove, and then form a “swing” on the other. Then we just fasten it into place. When the elevator is in its place, we fix the cover itself. Be sure to remember - first the lower grooves, and then the upper ones. At the end, it is important to check the functionality of the key. At first glance, this may seem like a very long process. But even a beginner who understands all the intricacies can cope with such a trifling breakdown in a couple of minutes without financial costs.

    Cracked, broken laptop keyboard button, what to do?

    A broken button, elevator or fixtures are beyond repair. You can try to replace them by buying failed parts in specialized stores. But this option is only for a short time. Do not try to glue the cover to the elevator. Since just one accidentally spilled drop of glue and the entire keyboard must be replaced.

    If a laptop keyboard key sinks?

    In this case, the sloppy owner who loves to eat and drink at a laptop is to blame. A clogged or liquid-filled keyboard often begins to show various “tricks” that cannot be corrected with a regular key bulkhead. It remains only to disassemble and thoroughly clean, and sometimes even change the keyboard itself.
    If the button sinks without returning to its proper place, the cause may be accumulated debris or a broken elevator. We remove the cover, look at what's wrong and remove all the debris. The key can stick due to accumulated debris under the rubber cap, which simply sticks to the board and contacts. In this case, you need to clean the keyboard and no longer clog it.
