How to edit in sony vegas. Basic elements of editing in Vegas Pro

Today we will talk about what is a project in Sony Vegas Pro, how to create a project in Sony Vegas Pro, how to save a project in Sony Vegas Pro. So, let's begin.

What is a project in Sony Vegas Pro?

When you work in Sony Vegas Pro, you must organize your work in a certain way. That is, to be able to open multimedia files, modify them, output them to a finished file. But beyond that, you must organize your work in such a way that you can stop working at any time, and continue working at any other time, without losing your previous work.

That's what this project is for. In a simplified form, a project is a file with a given name and a .veg extension. This extension is used specifically for projects created in Sony Vegas Pro.

So what exactly is stored in this file? And everything is stored in this file, except for the source files. That is, it stores information about all the files included in your work. These are video files, music files, picture files, etc. Information about all transitions, merging, cuts, changes in size, changes in speed is also stored. All project settings are stored. How many video tracks, how many audio tracks.

In general, everything you do in Sony Vegas Pro is stored in a project file.

What is not stored in a Sony Vegas Pro project file?

And although a huge number of things are stored in the project file, there are things that are not stored in it. These are the source files themselves. Therefore, even if you saved the project, but accidentally deleted a file, then it is useless to look for them in the project file.

How to create a project in Sony Vegas Pro?

In fact, when you open the program, you already have a project. True, at this moment it is not yet saved and all its settings are by default. In this case, its default name will be "Untitled". However, if you are not satisfied with the default settings, then you can create a Sony Vegas Pro project.

Go to the File menu, select the New menu item. Or just press Ctrl+N. The New Project dialog box will appear.

There are a lot of settings here, but of them I will consider only a few of the most important ones.

The Template graph. Here you can choose any resolution of your project. You can see more about this in this

The Sony Vegas Pro program itself, by default, sets the HD 1080-60i format (1920 × 1080; 29,970 fps).

What does HD mean, with a frame size of 1920x1080 and a frame rate of 29.970. This is a format that is quite suitable for most projects. However, if you are working with a different format, then you can choose another format right away. For example Internet 360-25p 16:9 (640×360; 25,000 fps). This is a stripped-down format for the Internet. Or vice versa, you can select 4K 16:9 24p (4096×2304; 23.976 fps) to create 4K videos.

Please note that when choosing settings, you do not choose the file format. You only choose the size and frame rate. The file format itself is selected when the file is saved.

Next, you can check the box next to the inscription - Start all news projects with these settings. This means that if you have chosen a different file template, then when you create a new project, your project will be created with the default settings you selected.

Well, that's all. That is, yes, as I said, there are many settings when creating a new project, but at least at first you don’t need to change them all.

How to save a Sony Vegas Pro project?

Well, now everything is easier. If you are saving the project for the first time, then go to the File menu, select the menu item Save as ... (save as). The Save As dialog box will open. Next, select a folder to save. Next, in the File Name column, select a name to save and click the OK button.

If you have already saved the project, then just go to the File menu and select the Save menu item. Or just press Ctrl+S.

How to open a project in Sony Vegas Pro.

1. If you have already created and saved the project, then you can open the project in two ways. Go to the Fail menu. Then select the Open menu item. Or press Ctrl+O. The Open Project dialog box will open. Next, select the folder where you previously saved the project file. And now select the desired project file.

2.In Windows itself, go to the folder where you saved the project file. Select the project file itself and double-click on it with the left mouse button. Or just press the Enter key. This will launch Sony Vegas Pro. And your project will already be open in the program. However, please note that if you already have a program window open, another window will open.

Well, that's all for today. Today we learned how to create, save and open a project in Sony Vegas Pro.

Hi all! Today we will move with you to video editing. And first of all, I would like to give you detailed instructions how to use sony vegas pro 13 even if you are a novice user. Today this program is one of the best. Of course, you can't argue that Adobe Premiere is better, but Sony Vegas is no less functional and easier to learn. Many professional video bloggers and editors use this application, and the videos are just great. Of course, it’s impossible to fit everything in one article, but at least we’ll cover the basics, and then slowly get to something more serious.

Program interface

Before proceeding to the work itself, I will briefly talk about the program interface. The Sony Vegas Pro 13 program includes several areas:

  1. Main area (window). Various auxiliary parameters, effects, titles, as well as a media window into which all imported files will be loaded will be located here. You can hide and add windows as you wish.
  2. View window. This window is necessary for video editing, as here is a review of what we have done at the moment.
  3. Artboard. This is where the whole kitchen of audio and video editing comes in. The cutter consists of any number of tracks in which you can cut, glue, overlay media files on top of each other, and much more.
  4. Track management area. In fact, this is part of the editing, as it is responsible for managing the tracks on the timeline and adding effects to them. We will talk about all this in more detail later.

The rest is not important yet, since everything will come by itself during training.

How to open a media file

In order to open any media file (photo, video, audio) in Sony Vegas Pro, you need to go to the menu "File" - "Open". After that, select one or more files.

All downloaded files will automatically go to the desired tracks (we will talk about them later), but if you don’t need them yet, you can remove them from there by selecting each of them and pressing Delete. All the same, they will remain in the media window and you can take them at any time by dragging them onto the track.

To transfer video or audio simply to the media window without adding it to the track, click on "File" - "Import" - "Media" and select any files from your computer.

Besides. You can open a file by dragging it from Explorer to the program itself. To do this, hold the left mouse button on the video and simply drag it into the program window. If the application is minimized, then drag the file to the application icon and wait for it to open itself.

The advantage of this method is that you can transfer the media file both directly to the track and to the media window. In this case, nothing will appear on the timeline, but you can move it there at any time.

Sony Vegas Basics

Let's look at how to use Sony Vegas Pro 13 using the example of creating a small clip. Let us initially have a couple of pieces of video and an audio file.

Preparation

Open all of these media files and drag them all into the tracks if needed. You should have three tracks:

  1. Video track for two videos
  2. Audio track for sound accompaniment to these two videos
  3. A separate audio track with an audio file that we will overlay.

If the video is long, the track size will automatically shrink to fit on the screen. But you can always zoom in three ways:

  • Mouse wheel up and down
  • Clicking on the plus and minus buttons in the lower right corner of the screen.

Deleting an attached audio track

Since we are making a separate clip with a new sound, we need to get rid of the accompaniment that initially comes with the loaded videos, and when we drag it, the accompaniment automatically stretches. But if we try to select and remove the attached audio, then the adjoining video will also be removed. But there is a way out.

To do this, you need to click on the adjacent audio track so that it is highlighted, then right-click on it and select "Group" - "Remove from", or press U on keyboard. Then there will be ungrouping and they will separate from each other.

After that, you can safely click on the audio and press the key Delete. Similarly, you need to do with the rest of the rollers on the tracks.

To prevent an empty track from taking up extra space, right-click on its control block, and then select "Delete Track". Now everything is clear...

Video editing: cutting and gluing

Now let's proceed directly to video editing in Sony Vegas Pro, so that we get a full-fledged clip. I already talked about this process in my article about, but now I will tell you more about it.

To begin with, we will cut off only those parts of the video that we do not need, for example, we do not need a segment from 15 to 40 seconds at all. Then we get up to the fifteenth second of the track by clicking in the right place on the timeline (on the video). If you miss, you can move to the right time using the arrows on the keyboard.

Now press the key S on the keyboard, after which you will see that in this very place the track will be divided into two parts. If you need to separate the entire back part, then you don’t need to do anything else, and if you need to remove the whole segment, then in the same way we go to the end of the unnecessary part of the track and press the S key again. You may notice that separation will occur again at this point.

Now, click on this segment so that it is highlighted, then right-click and select Delete, or press the key of the same name.

After that, we will have a gap, that is, an empty space after we cut out part of the track. In order to connect two parts and not leave a gap, hold down the left mouse button on the second part of the track and drag it to the first part. Toward the end, she herself will be magnetized to the back. Thus, there will be no gaps. By the way, you will also need to do the same with the second video, which we uploaded separately. But it would be great to make a beautiful and smooth transition, which I will tell you about in the next article.

If you need to remove only the end of the track, then you just need to move the cursor over the back area until its appearance changes, then hold down the left mouse button and drag it until everything unnecessary is gone. The same can be done with the beginning of the track. I usually use this feature to.

Well, the icing on the cake will be a smooth fade at the end. To do this, stand on the corner behind the very last fragment of the track and start dragging slightly to the left with the left mouse button held down. In this case, a white semi-arc will be drawn on the fragment, which will indicate attenuation.

Fragment duplication

If some piece of the track needs to be inserted somewhere else on the track, then one of the following methods can be used:

After you've done everything, be sure to see how it will look by clicking on the play button and looking at the preview window. If everything turned out as it should, then we can start saving.

How to save video or audio in sony vegas pro 13

The program has two types of saving:

  • Saving a working file is necessary for intermediate recording so that you can edit the material at any time. It is an internal file of Sony Vegas Pro and saves only settings, work and paths to edited files.
  • Export of the finished video (rendering). After you render the video, it will no longer be possible to edit it, since it becomes a full-fledged audio-video file, that is, everything merges together.

Saving a working project

To make an intermediate recording while saving all the developments, you just need to select the menu "File" - "Save As". After that, select the location on your hard drive where the file will be saved.

You can also select the item "Export" in the same File menu, where you will need to click on Vegas Project Archive (Veg).

Export of the finished project

But when your Sony Vegas Pro project is ready and you already need to save a separate file in audio or video format, then go to the menu "File" - "Render".

You will have a whole bunch of formats in which you can save the finished project. Here there are already a few nuances:

  1. At the top of the screen, select the path and name of the finished project. You can select the path by writing it manually, or specify the path to the folder by clicking the "Browse" button.
  2. Next, choose a format. If you are making a video for the Internet, for example for YouTube, then you can select Main Concept (mp4). And in the drop-down group, select the item Internet HD 1080 to select the highest quality.
  3. In order not to look for the desired format next time, you can click on the star next to this item. Then it will change color. And next time it will be enough for you to check the box "Show Favorites Only" to display only the formats you select.
  4. At the end press the button "Render", then lean back in your chair and wait for the save to end. Depending on the duration of the finished project and the elements with effects involved, the save time will either be long or not very long. But in any case, you will need patience. I remember once making a video for a friend and his fiancee when they got married. So it seemed like it was only 4 minutes, and it was saved for 2 hours. But there I just stuffed everything immeasurably, including various footage.

Outcome

I hope that now you understand the basics of how to use Sony Vegas Pro 13, and now you can make a simple video. But this is only the beginning.

If you want to really learn video editing at a cool level, then I recommend you to watch this killer course on working in Premiere Pro. This is a rather complex but highly professional video editor. Thanks to these lessons, you can easily learn how to work in it and be able to make really cool videos. Highly recommend.

Well, this concludes my article. I hope you find it useful and interesting. Follow the updates of my blog so as not to miss something important and interesting, especially within my new heading on video editing. Good luck to you. Bye bye!

Sincerely, Dmitry Kostin

Sony Vegas Pro- a program for working with files (video and audio). At first glance, it seems that it contains a lot of functions. And they are quite difficult to understand. But actually it is not. Working with this program is quite easy and pleasant. You will get used to it. And you will not want to switch to any other similar program.

1. Launching the program.
Double click on the icon Sony Vegas Pro. After that, the main workspace of the program will open in front of you.

2. Create a new project.
You can start working with the program immediately after its launch. At the end, the template selected by default by the program itself can be changed to the one you need.
But you can immediately ask necessary settings. Select File -> New... In the window that opens, you can adjust the settings for the template, the height and width of the video, the frame rate, set the desired parameters for the sound, etc.

3. Opening a file.
Let's move on File -> Open…

A window will open where you will need to select any file (video or audio) that you want to work with. Then it will appear on the workspace. If suddenly you accidentally delete it or an entire track, you can always reload the file through the Project Data tab.
The screenshot shows adding a video file.

Sony Vegas Pro automatically places it on two tracks: the first now contains data with video, and the second - data with sound.

4. Deleting a track.
Right-click on the desired track and select from the menu "Delete track".

After that, the track and all files that are present on it will be deleted. Files on other tracks will remain.
To delete only part of the file, you need to click on the scissors tool (or CTRL + X). After that, the data will be divided into two fragments (that is, the "scissors" cut the file into two parts). The part that you do not need can be deleted or moved to the right place.

5. Overlay transitions.
The end of one fragment can be combined with the beginning of another. Thus, the default transition is formed, it will be smooth. You can also just darken the end of the video (mute the sound), for this you need to slightly move the green small slider located in the corner of the desired fragment to the beginning.
To make a beautiful transition between the pieces of the video, you need to go to the tab "Transitions".

6. Enlargement of the frame.
To enlarge the frame, you need to use the special button at the end of the video fragment. Then you can narrow the square (in this case, the image is scaled) or, conversely, expand it.

7. Overlay effects.
Right below the zoom button is the effects overlay icon. You need to click on it, then select the effect and click on the button "Add". Only after all the necessary effects are selected, you need to activate the button "OK".

The effect parameter editing window will open. Decrease or increase the value of one or another parameter, look at the changes in the preview window. Save the result as soon as you achieve the desired video display.

8. Overlay video fragments.
You can place files on parallel tracks, and then change the blending mode on the first one.

The final result of the resulting effect will be visible in the preview window.

9. Video effects.
There are automatic effects for videos, which are located on the corresponding tab.

Drag and drop the effect you want onto the file, then adjust the settings as needed.
To prevent other files from interfering with the one you are currently working on, simply mute the other tracks. To do this, click on the exclamation mark icon opposite the track that should be "soloed".

10. Adding text to files.
On the Data Generators tab, you can select various templates, including text ones. Just drag the selected template to the desired location, then enter the text.

11. Create a video.
You have successfully added files, applied transitions and effects. Now it remains only to create our video. Select File -> Create As...

A window will appear where you can change the settings. Click on the button "Save" as soon as you enter the required information.

After that, the process of creating your video will begin.

We have considered only the main features of a program such as Sony Vegas Pro. At first, it will be quite difficult to choose the right effect or transition right away. But over time, you will solve this issue in a second. Good luck creating your own clips and valuable films.

By the way, if the video does not suddenly appear, try.

The article contains the most basic operations and commands that will help a person who first encounters this program (after downloading and setting it up) to quickly understand “where everything is” and how to use it. The text is accompanied by screenshots and video. I want to start with an important team, the most in demand, saving the day very often.

Download and install + settings Sony Vegas Pro 15

1. Computer Requirements

2. Sequence of actions

The first is to download and install the codecs first.

The second is to download and install the program.

The third is to set up the program and the project (you need to set it up when you insert the first video or picture, or audio).

So it's more correct. If in the course of further work some failures in video recognition suddenly occurred, then the codecs can be reinstalled again without deleting the previous version. Essentially, update.

You can set up a project in different ways. In this guide, I recommend setting it up so that you can get a quality output video and post it on YouTube.

3. Where to download and how to install codecs.

4. Where to download and how to install the program.

5. Program settings.

6. Project setup

Before you start editing, set up your project for publishing on YouTube. It is advisable that you use Hd or FullHD videos. The project settings are located at the top left of the preview window.

To download and further work, just drag and drop desired file on the timeline - the desired track will be added automatically and the file will stand on it.

3. How to separate video and audio tracks in Sony Vegas to work with them separately

How to separate audio from video in Sony Vegas Pro? Place the cursor anywhere in the video and press on the keyboard U. Now you can move (edit, delete, copy, etc.) each track separately.

4. Cut video (audio) and remove fragment

Place the cursor where you want to cut the file and press on the keyboard S. This is where the file will be cut. All individual fragments of the mouse can be moved on the track, swapped, transferred to other tracks.

To delete part of a file cut in the right places and press DEL from the keyboard or right-click to call up the context menu and select the “Delete” command.

5. How to trim video in Sony Vegas Pro: shorten video (audio or picture length per frame)

1 option. Drag the mouse over the edge of the file, moving the border in the desired direction to the required length. The file will automatically "collapse" what you shift. If you moved the border further than necessary, just drag it back.

Option 2. Place the cursor where the new file boundary should be. Press S and remove the cut piece (see point above).

6. Insert a picture or video (audio) between separate pieces of video (audio).

If you need to insert a picture or video into a whole (not cut) fragment, then first you need to cut (see above how) it in the place where you want to insert it.

Arrange video (audio) files on one track in the desired sequence.

To transition, move adjacent fragments so that one is partially on top of the other. Crossed transition lines (blue and white) will appear.
The duration of the transition is controlled by the shift of the fragments. The more they overlap each other, the longer (longer in the frame) the transition of one video (audio) to another will be. The number of frames is indicated, you can't go wrong.

8. Sony Vegas Transitions: Using Transitions (With Different Effects)

Select in the tab Transitions the necessary transition and drag it with the mouse to the section for changing fragments, which are mentioned in paragraph 6.

If you don't like the result, select another transition and drag it onto the track. It is not necessary to delete the previous one, the last superimposed transition will be in priority.

9. Sony Vegas Transitions: Smooth and/or effected appearance of video (pictures) in the frame

In order for the video (picture) to smoothly appear in the frame or smoothly leave it, you need to find a small blue marker in the upper left (at the entrance) or in the upper right (at the exit).

Move the cursor over it so that the transition icon appears - a triangle. Pull it to the side and a transition line will appear.

The pictures show the execution at the input. The same is done at the end of the file to exit.

tab Transitions used for a beautiful command or departure (in and out). Drag the selected transition with the mouse exactly as shown in step 7. The video will appear with the selected Transitions effects.

If you want to change the transition to another, then it is not necessary to delete the previous one, the new one will be in priority.

10. Sony Vegas Pro increase volume, amplify and attenuate audio.

It is performed in the same way as in paragraph 8, only without transition overlays. Just shift the triangle at the beginning or end of the selected fragment.

Turn down or turn up the volume can be different.

First– drag the mouse over the upper border (there is a blue marker strip) of the audio track on the timeline down/up. This changes the volume of a particular file. Others remain unchanged.

Second option- on the track control panel (in the picture in blue), move the volume slider. This changes the volume of the entire track, that is, for all files located on this audio track.

The maximum possible volume can be set in the mixer in the Master Bus window

Sony Vegas Pro how to save video project and render project

The concepts of "Save" and "Render" are different.

Render project - this is the output of the editing results already in the video format, you get a video that can be uploaded to social networks, etc.

11. Sony Vegas Pro How to save a project

The save button is located in the top menu (disk icon) and in the drop-down menu when you click on "File". If you want to save an existing project with a different name, then use "Save As / Save As".

12. Project render

Check your project settings before rendering. Check permission. The project render command is located in the "file" tab: "Render as"

What is the best video format for Sony Vegas Pro? Or rather, render.

The render topic is too big to fit in the ground rules, so choose the most common render format, Sony AVC/MVC and the INERNET 1280 by 720 variant and 30 frame rate.

If you have a project fragment selected for rendering (when you want to get not everything that you “did”, but only the part of the project that is highlighted with yellow markers), then check if the checkbox is checked in the render settings tab, as shown below.

In other special cases, a different format may be required. For example, when saving the Alpha channel - files with the ability to make the background transparent.

13. How to select a fragment for rendering

If you need to render only a part of the project, then you need to select this part with markers.

Click on any fragment of the video and drag the yellow markers that appear to those points that you want to limit the rendering to.

The selection can be changed.

4. Most commonly used operations and commands for video or image decoration (applicable to titles)

Effects are often referred to as presets or plugins. Before choosing a preset, you need to click on the fragment to which the effects will be applied.

1. Brightness, contrast

2. How to make a transparent background in Sony Vegas Pro

A common question is how to make a video transparent in Sony Vegas.

On a fragment (video, picture), drag the horizontal line up/down with the mouse, thereby changing the transparency. The percentage of transparency is indicated in a small box when the line moves.

3. Blur

4. Vignette or darken the edges of the screen

5. Titles and text

tab media Generations, Further Titles& Text (Headings and text) and a choice from those offered. A settings window will appear where you can change the text, select the style, color, size, position of the text in the frame, etc.

2. Appearance and disappearance, effects

All the possibilities apply to text as to other media - transitions, appearance and disappearance from the frame, brightness, contrast, transparency, etc.

6. Movement of media elements in the frame using Pan/Crop

1. YouTube video format

Click Pan/Crop. In the window that opens, select the aspect ratio of 16 to 9.

2. Changing the view scale in the Pan/Crop window

To zoom in and out, click on the picture and roll your mouse wheel.

3. Setting the picture synchronization in PanCrop and in the Preview window.

Synchronization allows you to see in the preview window all the changes that you make in PanCrop. It shows exactly the place where the cursor-slider on the timeline stands.

To synchronize, the Sinc Cursor button must be blue. Click the button if it is disabled.

4. Enlarge and reduce the picture

Drag the corner handles and the image or video will shrink or enlarge. To maintain the aspect ratio, change the size while pressing the CTRL button.

If the synchronous display button is active, then in the preview window you will see all the changes.

Working with a project - important rules

  • Keep all media files (footage, pictures, audio, video, etc.) for each specific project in a separate folder. Save your project and render there.

Why is that?

The project does not contain the files themselves, but only indicates the path to these files that you use.

  • You can already use the rendered video for your own purposes. Post on YouTube, on social networks, on the website.

You will not be able to edit the finished video, it is a separate file without tracks. If you want to change something, then return to the project, that is, to the Sony Vegas program. And in it you change everything you need.

This concludes a brief introduction to the main commands and operations. This "Cheat Sheet" will help you if you suddenly forget how this or that operation is performed, where to look for buttons, tabs, etc.

Remember that this is only a hundredth, if not less, part of the possibilities of Vegas. It is better to get acquainted with the rest in the course of work, since different operations are used for different tasks.
